WBA TOURNAMENT

Post by LasPalmas »

Well this is going well isn't it, Ustinov is avoiding Ortiz, klit and fury can't agree terms and set a date and venue and fury says he wants no part of the tournament anyway. fres orquendo has had to get a court order to allow him to fight Browne who has just failed a drugs test.

I am actually in favor of this tournament as it will sort the belt situation out, and think it should be done in all divisions. But this is a joke at the moment :brick:

Did you expect anything less?
The whole premise was a joke. Looking at the bracket it was uneven by anyone's standards.
And in my opinion Fury should not have to fight in it.
He should have to face the winner.
Why does a champion have to enter a tournament to claim the title he already has won in the ring?

The whole boxing world is a bit of a joke, Wilder can wait so long till he fights his first real opponend, his opponend is pretty much an old men by now. If you want to avoid someone, it's easely possible. Ortiz will probably get avoided by pretty much anyone in the top 10 and probably even 20.

It is quite clear a deal could not be reached because the Povetkin side wanted to force a purse bid to bring the fight to Russia.

Povetkin got nothing to do with this, and Povetkin is allways trying to prevent such things from happening, it's Wilder who's continually asking for unfair advantages and he isn't involved either.

The WBA should go back to having 1 Champion in each weight class then there would be no situation with the belt. :witzend: whats wrong with having a number 1 contender probably sanctioning fee's

I was speaking about the negotiation period prior to the purse bid. Yes I am aware the fight is in Moscow May 21. Should be the easiest fight for Deontay in the last few years.

The tournament is a load of rubbish. Fury is the champion end of.

If it's to determine a mandatory for Fury then fine. If Browne fails a drug test and then Ustinov doesn't want to fight Ortiz then make Ortiz mandatory for Fury.

Free Oquendo shouldn't be anywhere near

There done.

But everyone wanted one champ not 3, so it's obvs that the solution is not to declare the one that is clearly the champ the champion, no you need a torunament between all the fights so they get more money not less, and they new fighters can get the vacant belt so they can do it all again. :yay:

The reality is that these tournaments just don't work. Money talks in boxing, so if something more appealing comes up, then you are going to fight someone outside the tournament. Boxing doesn't need these tournaments, it simply needs organisations to stop bringing out interim and regular belts.
