Jamie McDonnell vs Juan Alberto Rosas April 9

Post by tigermoth87 »

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere but saw it on boxrec today. He's going to be defending his WBA title on the Martin vs Joshua undercard.

Assume it's a short notice opponent since last I checked McDonnell didn't have an opponent. Think it should be a fairly straight forward win for McDonnell; although Rosas does have a win over Tete from a few years back so he can pull off the upset.

Rosas has some good wins and for the most part has been very durable against solid opposition. That said, he seemed more effective at lower weights and within his last two suffered his first stoppage loss and only managed a SD over a 15-15-3 opponent.

Can't remember if I've seen Rosas but if he managed to decision Tete who is a big lanky operator then he could pose McDonnell a few problems. In saying that it's hard to imagine anyone beating Tete after watching him a couple of times!

Vargas well over the hill,in retirement and will be severely weight drained, this is a new low for Matchroom matchmaking :OhYes:

In all seriousness i was looking at Rosas's record the other day and noticed the name Fernando Vargas,he's coming off a 8 round decision win over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr,TBH its a routine defence for McDonnell,he's coming off a couple of great wins in the States against Kameda which i think he deserved, hopefully he can get the Yamanaka or Payano fights next,Jamie's an underated fighter and i hate seeing him defend that WBA "Ordinary" strap,he's much better than that

By rights he should be the WBO Champion considering he beat Kameda who was the champ at the time I think. Or was Kameda stripped before the first fight for taking the fight with McDonnell?

Was something like that.

Im sure the WBO didnt recognise McDonnell's WBA "Regular" strap as a legitimate title(rightly so) therefore it wasnt a unification so they stripped him, fair play to Kameda for going through with the fight as Jamie did used to hold the IBF before being stripped so he must have seen him as a worthy opponent
