Postol vs Crawford-Is it PPV Worthy

Post by victor-romeo »

Per ESPN Arum putting together card for July 23, 2016 with Postol vs Crawford, great fight but is it worth paying for? They put Lomachenko vs Walters or Lomachenko vs Rigo I will buy card.

I'm generally of the opinion that if you put the 2 best in any division in together then I'm happy to pay for it.

Postol and Crawford are, without question, no 1 and 2 in the LWW division.

It's a good fight but nothing special in my opinion. Postol may be the #2 at 140 but I don't see him as being a standout world level guy like Crawford, and I think TC will win handily in a fight that is decent to watch but not FOTY type of stuff.

For the bill to be PPV worthy in terms of quality there would have to be a very strong undercard IMO, with bouts like those you mention.

As mentioned without a top class undercard it would struggle to do well PPV.

No, it isn't anything close to ppv worthy. It's a good match up. That's it.

Compared to Pacquiao vs Bradley for a third time, a re-run of a re-run with a very predictable result, it is definitely PPV worthy. Otherwise, no.

It won't do well because casual fans don't know who Postol is and may barely even know who Crawford is, honestly.

But for hardcore fans it's a huge fight and I will certainly buy it if the undercard is halfway decent.

Definitely not PPV worthy though it is a very intriguing fight and one that any self respecting hardcore boxing fan should not miss.

Undercards contribute very little to buy rates.

In America if it's got a strong Mexican or US-Mexican undercard I can see it vastly improving buys.
Santa-Cruz is the one who ended up on a few before his mares win.

I'm pretty sure only hardcore boxing fans know who Postol is. The only time he's ever headline and fought on a major network was against Matthysse. Crawford is on his way to super stardom, but has for the most part only fought on HBO after Dark.

All that said, I expect them to do numbers somewhere in the range of GGG-Lemieux, perhaps slightly lower.

It doesn't, never has. PPV is driven by the Main Event. It might get a few of us to buy it instead of stream it, but by and large stacked undercard PPV's with lukewarm Main Events top out about 100k.

Undercards rarely affect PPV numbers because the majority of buys is made by the the casual fans who only care about popular names. That's why I doubt this event would do good numbers.

But this is worthy for me personally, i'd pay to see a good fight between #1 and #2 of the division. Plus I'd be rooting for Postol, who is somewhat of an underdog here, making it more exciting for me.

Certainly not. Postol is barely known to American Fight audiences

The Duran/Chavez thing seems kinda stupid. How old is Duran? He's gotta be in his 60's at the very least, not to mention he's pretty damn fat these days.

+1. Its a fantastic fight for hard core but not going to attract too many casuals.

Postol has a difficult style to deal with for anybody. He is the only guy in the division with a chance against Crawford.

Yeah, I was joking. He fought until he was 50, probably 70.

It'd be funny if he did. I don't really see how he could though. Chavez is surely in better shape and closer to being capable of performing at a half decent level.

Not that it matters in a pointless 2 round exhibition.

Crawford looks like he has the body of a Welterweight and is adjusting to it.
Is this fight at 140 it could make a difference ?
PPV no
