Is Hughie Fury that good?
Is Hughie Fury that good?
I've seen a lot of talk of Hughie Fury becoming an elite level heavyweight. But I can't help but see the hypocrisy, Joshua quite rightly gets slated for fighting no-one with a pulse, barring Whyte who'd be a tough match for Hugie Furh. But who has Hughie fought? Absolutely no one of note, he too should be roasted but he isn't because he hasn't got the sky drivel behind him instigating the hate brigade, he is very young for a heavyweight yes but what has he done to show you that the elite level beckons?

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
He clearly has good skills, everything else is just the usual hype that comes with a young prospect.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Less hype = Less reason to complain.Hinchy70 wrote:I've seen a lot of talk of Hughie Fury becoming an elite level heavyweight. Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
He's only 21 as we'll so a baby in heavyweight terms. No point in rushing him.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Hughie has the potential to be very good but he'll likely be one for the purists.

He looks about 40. Must sleep on his face.Manchester Massive wrote:He's only 21 as we'll so a baby in heavyweight terms. No point in rushing him.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Great skill but lacks power and I have watched every one of his fights
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Am I right in saying he hangs his chin out when throwing to the body, I'm sure that's what I've noticed every time I've seen him, not been chin tested eithermullenman wrote:Great skill but lacks power and I have watched every one of his fights
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Maybe his power will develope? Has time on his side but I'd like to see him moved along gradually.mullenman wrote:Great skill but lacks power and I have watched every one of his fights

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
19 fights at just 21 is very good for this day and age. He'll likely get stronger as he gets more mature, and if he can continue to improve his technique there's no reason why he couldn't be a force one day.
I've seen nothing that screams "elite" to me, but at 21 I've seen nothing that screams "terrible" and that is much more important.

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
He has enough potential to be worth keeping an eye on, I think people claiming he will be great are being silly. Plenty of time still, fighting some decent guys for his age. Plus you don't want him getting in wars too young, it can take it's toll.

Pretty well rounded fighter for his age, and seems quite fluid, I'd say he's the potential to be better than his more famous relative. Depends how he develops though.

Ultimately, how far he goes will depend on how much power he can develop. He clearly moves well and has a decent technique but unless he gains some genuine power he's going to get walked down and bullied once he steps up.

Yeah, that's what I meant, he'd never be slick enough at that size to be some kind of Byrd reincarnation. Power can be worked on, but you do need to have some innate timing on those shots.the_doctor wrote:Ultimately, how far he goes will depend on how much power he can develop. Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
I thought his Dad's comments were bizarre when he claimed he was going to become the youngest heavyweight champ.

No-one has attempted to sell me a Hughie fight against domestic level operator, for £18, on the basis that it's a massive grudge match between the future undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and his fiercest rival
No-one has told me Hughie is going into a 50/50 fight against a dangerous undefeated world champion when in fact he was fighting someone worse than his previous domestic level opponent. And tried to charge me for it
Hughie is a talented lad, getting brought along at a pace that his team feels suits him (I had hoped he'd have been further along but the illness set him back almost a year.)
And yes his team are telling us he's a future world champion. But what undefeated fighters management and promoter aren't telling us that.
Myself and the "hate brigade" don't hate Joshua, we just hate the way he is being over-hyped, over-sold, we hate Eddie Hearn and have just the slightest sneaky suspiscion he might just be a great big raging roid head (or not, i'm no expert)
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
If someone asked me about AJ and HGH I know where I'd put my money but if they swapped and Joshua was with Hennesey and vice versa I'm sure you'd be far more inclined to dislike Hughie fury not that situation regardless of abilitydavie wrote:nailHinchy70 wrote:I've seen a lot of talk of Hughie Fury becoming an elite level heavyweight. Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
He's more experienced than Joshua, has done way more rounds, learning his trade well, not ready to step up yet but in a couple of years he's going to be a bit of a force.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at here.
But if roles were reversed, I'd probably be still disliking the over-hyped Matchroom "world champion" if that happened to be Hughie.
Would I dislike Hughie himself? Probably not, my opinion of him would likely be no different to what it is now (unless he started being a media trained robot
It would be the situation and the hype I'd dislike
Oh aye, and Eddie Hearns mere presence at his side, would still make my blood boil

I don't know how good he is, but I do know he's the only boxer I've ever seen who needs a dermatologist on his team.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
I'm a big fan of his. Not sure how far he'll go but I think he has great skills.
His heart & will haven't been tested yet though but the tests will come.

It is amazing tho isn't it that Hughie just happens to have extreme acne all over his face and upper body. It's also amazing that Young Fury just happens to also have this. It almost suggests it isn't coincidence......

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
It's quite odd that he's being immediately talked about in terms of "world" ability. Like he could pick up the Brit, commonwealth titles tomoz and it would just be a minor thing. I think he's got talent, I can see him winning lots of domestic belts and maybe a wba regular strap or similar
