HVY.wt. the "prize" division of all of Sports! Your a fan...you may not have the other divisions dismissed history living inside of you, but HVY.wts., that is "different story". Of course you know all the champs from memory at least, Tommy Burns thru MDokes, ha ha ha!
But here please give a criteria. One criteria that crosses my mind are "fight magnitude". For example: Dempsey-Tunney 1..nothing too special there! It is "routine". Dempsey-Tunney 2 has the "long count" controversy. But, does not make their contest "remarkable" otherwise. Joshua wins IBF the other day... but..how he done such/vs whom how much that "event" worth, really? NOT THAT WE COUNT HIM IN WE DO NOT. But...the match gives nice contrast. Now: Foreman - Frazier.."woe"/"forget it"/ "rating on all rictor scales.." Leon Spinks? What do we do with him? What if we counted only his first nine fights? Anyway, he was an enigma. What he was able to do that day, was "historically astonishing". No one will forget! I maybe would leave him OFF ratings and mark it by foot note!
Joe Louis time....the Society then concerned itself with "boxing" much differently than now-a-days! How does that "social context" weigh on individual boxers(?). How do we weigh "modern conditioning"? *Seems to me that HISTORY and impact intertwined by "social acceptence" of the Sport. Of course "purely stats" are considered heavily. Not so much the w-l-d but... the "names" faced & result. & WHAT IS THE "KO by..."
????
For starters give me a take 1-2-3 on these THREE HVY.wts: RON LYLE, ERNIE SHAVERS, KEN NORTON [only "one" correct answer on this one!]
notes: all fighters must be RETIRED a complete 5 years.
