Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
Seen on twitter Eddie offered this fight for Michael. This would be a cracking 50/50 fight both tidy boxers. Michael has been pretty much at lightweight his whole career. Hopefully this comes off

Can't see this happening. Not been that impressed with Flynn so far I've got to admit. Really enjoyed his energy and intensity throughout the commonwealth games but he's not really been a standout as a pro yet. This would be a good fight at this stage for both guys.

Why won't it happen?
Re: Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
Roberts only fought a few weeks ago and it's quite short notice. Also have to question Roberts ambition. He's been a pro nearly 6 years and hasn't had a meaningful fight. Roberts has operated at mainly Feather and now SuperFeather. Flynn is a big lightweight. The fight won't happen.Horse wrote:Why won't it happen?

I still haven't watched Flynn yet,he hasn't had the publicity I thought he would
Re: Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
Ive had this conversation on twitter already with people including Hearn himself. I dont understand why Roberts would be expected to show any interested in this fight. Flynn is a big lightweight who has been in training for this date whilst Roberts has recently fought and likely stepped off the gas training wise just now as a result. He may not have been fighting big names every fight but Charlie Flynn wouldnt exactly be a big turning point in his career either if he were to beat him, the lad is only 7-0 and untested.
Talking of ambition, some may see Flynn as ambitious for wanting a crack at a clearly more experienced pro but I see it as the opposite. Id class him as ambitious if his team were chasing after guys in his own weight division as I'm sure there are many guys out there who would like a shot at him.
For what its worth, I like Flynns personality and the small hype surrounding him but he gets hit quite easily. Takes shots to land his own without looking like he carries much pop. If the size didnt play a difference then Roberts would likely outbox him comfortably to a decision.

Roberts has boxed most his career around the weight. It's a 50/50 fight. Charlie doesn't have power a tidy boxer who is notorious for being chinny and Roberts doesn't carry a punch. Be a nice boxing match on a big stage. Well worth the risk .

Roberts has been a pro 6 years and hasn't been tested either. I can see why he wouldn't jump in to this fight at short notice and a weight above but who else is he going to fight? More journeymen?Emmseegee wrote:Ive had this conversation on twitter already with people including Hearn himself. I dont understand why Roberts would be expected to show any interested in this fight. Agree about Flynn. I have watched a few of his pro fights and I'm not impressed so far. As you say, very easy to hit.
Hopefully MGM can get Roberts some meaningful fights. The promoters up here are a joke.

Just to point out Michael asked Hearn to fight on this show. He was then given an offer and has not replied. As a boxer you cant have it all ways. Ask to fight on a promoters show then refuse because its a 50/50 fight. Funny thing is I would actually expect Michael to win. I think Charlie has no power and Michael is the better boxer... Its a Celtic Title so a huge step up

I personally don't think that Michael Roberts wins the fight, he has shown zero interest in fighting anyone of note and claims he is a Featherweight but there is no way in hell he makes that weight. I would actually prefer Eddie to make an offer to your brother Ronnies manager about this fight, if Charlie Flynn is going to reach the heights expected then he should manage to beat Ronnie who overtime he has stepped up has been beaten. It is also well known that for the Jordan McCorry fight he struggled badly with Super Featherweight.
Lets get a proper fight on the bill and imo this would be a proper fight, if Ronnie and Charlie fight my money would be on Ronnie in a close points win
Re: Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
They won't take the fight. Ronnie doesn't have a manager so they would need to contact Ronnie also. Ronnie has only ever struggled at super feather once . He makes it easy normally just last fight he ate right up. Tried to come in a lot heavier than he normally does. The advantage was every time he hit mccorry he shook him, disadvantages he hit him about 6 times the whole fight haha.
Re: Charlie Flynn v Michael Roberts jnr on Burns undercard Celtic Title
I think Ronnie would stop Charlie. They wont take that fight. Ronnie made the weight easy he just put on far too much weight after. It made him lethargic. Hes still trying things he got that one wrong. Hopefully Charlie gets a good fightmainman1 wrote:daviddee wrote:Just to point out Michael asked Hearn to fight on this show.
