How do you find this boxing year so far?
How do you find this boxing year so far?
wilder/povetkin not happening
kovalev and the 2 chicken not willing to face him
pacquiao retiring although he still looks tremendous and would give great entertaining fights vs spence or thurman/porter winner
walthers chicken out of a great match up with vasyl
canelo avoiding ggg, like a fat child avoiding salade
gonzales or inoue not willing to move up or down or catchweight
what happened to usyk-glowacki, i thought they had finilazed the deal?
a lot of negativ
positiv
crawford boxing postol, 2 best in the division
wilder, josh and ortiz continuing to be super impressiv, the 3 best heavyweights in a long long time
the so far ko of year canelo did on khan
overall a horrible year, basicly nothing happened so far.

I think you've summed it up pretty well.
Add in David Haye who is annoying me as I think he has more to offer than De Mori, Arnold Whathisname & Briggs.

realy frustrating, i mean glowacki-usyk would have been such a top cw fight and i thought everything was done, it was even on boxrec and now nothing
yeah, haye is realy getting on my nervs and now old briggs, who prids himself on koing z level opponents
Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
Even with my normal (very) positive attitude about the sport, this year has been relatively dismal, so far.
Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
In my 15 years of hardcore Boxing fandom this is the weakest year of Boxing I've ever seen.

yeah..totaly agree. in close to 6 month, in freaking half a year, nothing, absolutly nothing has happened. pac/timmy was a joke match up anyway, pac was and is simply better than tim. canelo ko was nice, but against a guy from light welterweight with no chin

It was remarkeble predicteble, except for the thing that Wilder managed to delay even more time, despite Povetkin didn't break a single rule in the contract. I really hope they take the belt away from Wilder now, step up or fight bums without that belt.

Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
Most significant fight of the year so far was Carl Frampton vs Scott Quigg for me. At least as far as the quality of the matchup. Didn't turn out to be the most exciting fight in the world unfortunately, but for the most part this year has been filled with mismatches and showcases and little else.Chepppaaa wrote:gilgamesh wrote:In my 15 years of hardcore Boxing fandom this is the weakest year of Boxing I've ever seen.

what a terrible year. hope that spence gets thurman or kovalev gets bertebiev or something meaningful happens, i am not even asking for canelo to meet ggg...
At least we got Salido vs Vargas in June (that should be a lot of fun) and Porter vs Thurman in June. So June is shaping up to be the best month of the year for Boxing so far. So that's a plus.

Stop quoting me when you talk to youself about yourself plz. WBC should take his belt away and give it to Povetkin. Then Wilder may try to fight himself up to mandatory status while Povetkin tries to unify the belts or makes some money against a local teacher and a mailboxmakerTanzio wrote:Get your diaper changed. . 1.5 years after Wilder got the mandatory status he can let his manager try to buy Povetkin to America. Then they can let the Russians test for all the illegal substances Wilder might ever have taken. And if it turns out Wilder has ever taken an aspirin, or jodium or something because he eated some meat, Povetkin should receive the pursebid money even without fighting at all.

Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
Extreme suckiness.
Have there been any really big bouts this year? The 2 PPV headliners were a retread (Pac vs. Bradley) and a foregone conclusion (Canelo unloading on the china-chinned Khan-job)
Nothing huge on the horizon. Thurman vs Porter is interesting but will fly under the radar.
The best we may get is Santa Cruz vs. Frampton and Mares against Cuellar (which is probably a corking matchup)
But overall, there's little to get excited about in 2016.

i still wouldn't put it past floyd to pick garcia for his 50th instead of mcgregor, which would
be a classic floyd fakeout since he is always going after the ufc. he probably loves being
begged for a fight from the guys who are always trying to write boxing's obituary.
i haven't seen the brook-vargas fight appear on the schedule but arum and hearn said
it was going to be in an outdoor stadium in sheffield.
there are title fights and fights involving contenders and former titlists and multi-division
titlists almost every weekend. we just had 3 at 154 on one card yesterday. it's not like
NOTHING has happened so far, but yeah it sucks the biggest fights are falling through.
the first fury-klit was boring but still a big upset. hopefully klit gets a little more aggressive
in the rematch and something happens one way or the other.

Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
It's been a crap year. No other way to say it. Crawford and Postol are the only two putting their junk on the cutting board this year. The rest of the year resembled that mess of a night this past weekend with the Charlo idiots and that human sleeping pill, Lara. I personally can't stand those two Charlo's and can't wait until they finally fight someone. Trout is a great name to put on a resume but let's face it, he's all done now. He has no pop and is war weary after lugging it out in their with the sports finest.
If anyone felt satisfied with the entertainment factor after that Lara fight, i'd sure love to hear how. He's so boring that even if you put him in there with someone exciting, he's still boring. I can't wait until someone finally figures out that Lara always escapes to his right with his hands down on the ropes. Anguello showed us all that when he dropped him twice. GGG would absolutely demolish Lara.

The Povetkin cancellation REALLY Pissed me off though.

Joshua's been good. Wilder Povetkin a disappointment. Canelo Khan went to plan. Still some goodies to come up for me they are Fury Klitschko, Joshua Breazeale and hopefully Wilder Povetkin.
Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
The Lara v Marti card was excellent; high level boxing throughout. All three competitive fights. One excellent stoppage for a comeback victory.caldo2025 wrote:It's been a crap year. Marti fights anyone and is always competitive. Lara is a beautiful boxer who does not run as much as he is criticized for it. I enjoy most of Lara's fights (GingerHead being an exception). In my opinion Marti deserved a draw Saturday night.
It amazes me how alleged boxing fans hate so many of the finest boxers. True, they are usually not in the most exciting fights, but I enjoy watching them operate.
Charlo v Trout was competitive throughout but Trout just couldn't get over the hump and win rounds until it was too late. Trout is a consummate pro. It was the least interesting of the three fights but I still enjoyed it.
Charlo v Jackson was an excellent match. Jackson had Charlo relatively befuddled, reducing him to a plodding chaser. Jackson has some nice skills. Charlo won my respect by finding a way to come from well behind and end the fight dramatically. He finished brutally.
I find it curious that hardcore boxing fans could find a way not to be entertained by that card.
Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
A MASSIVE disappointment and letdown... I looked forward to the Povetkin-Wilder Fight... I looked forward to the GGG-Canelo Fight.
The sucky "Business of Boxing" intervened to protect Wilder with phony accusations of positive PED tests for Povetkin -- and Canelo saying "We don't FUK AROUND" when he's the biggest fan fukker in Fistic History with the exception of Floyd Mayweather (who will now bring us Mayweather vs McGregor) ... Canelo may bring us the fabulous CANELO-KHAN II.

Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
I guess this means that you also enjoy watching Riggo fight as well? Your enjoyment in watching amateurish Cuban boxing styles in main events is a thought process of the minority. Lara has the skills and tools to be an outright superstar and great for the sport but his career is going nowhere because of the way he's chosen to fight. You would have thought he had learned something in that Canelo fight where I felt he clearly won the fight but lost millions of fans at the same time. Everyone expected the Lara that fought in that war with Anguello (To me one of top 20 fights in the last decade) but instead, he tapped and ran the whole night and refused to engage. When a boxer loses that kind of fight, they usually change to either fight a different way or go for knockouts a little harder to keep it out of judges hands. Lara hasn't changed at all. He's still fighting as an amateur.Tanzio wrote:The Lara v Marti card was excellent; high level boxing throughout. All three competitive fights. 99% of boxing fans would rather see 2 of GGG rounds of destruction then 24 rounds of Lara tapping and running and acting like an arshole in the ring. He's just a punk in my eyes. I personally can't stand boxers that talk that much crap in the ring while running the whole time. Not for me, thanks. Go toe to toe and push for a KO and then you can talk crap. But dodging an overhand right and then landing a jab is not worth blabbing about while dancing around the ring like you accomplished something.

Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
I enjoyed the Lara v Marti fight, as I did Charlo v Trout and Charlo v Jackson. It was an excellent card. I harbor no love for Lara. I thought that he earned (at best) a draw, and without the penalty should have lost. He engaged quite a lot in that fight or Marti would have had no chance whatsoever. Lara stunk it up v GingerHead and (again) deserved no better than a draw. Both of those fights could have gone either way.caldo2025 wrote:I guess this means that you also enjoy watching Riggo fight as well? Lara did everything but decapitate Paul Williams and was robbed, plain and simple. PWill barely laid a glove on him. Angulo did indeed figure Lara out and Erislandy dug deep to get that stoppage, to my dismay.
Your hate is on parade with your comments on Lara being a crap talker, and he and Rigo being amateurish. That is simply laughable, as is your hate for the Charlo's. I enjoy toe to toe action but I do not consider it an obligation in order to be considered a credible professional or to be allowed to speak your mind.
FMJ irritated me far more than Lara does and he had far fewer KOs in the backstretch of his career, but I have always respected his professional skill, and gifts. Is he also amateurish in your opinion? How about Wilfred Benitez, one of the great defensive fighters in history? SRL went toe to toe only when absolutely necessary. He fought very similarly to Lara in Duran I and for the first 12 rounds of Hearns I.
You are correct that Lara has underachieved. He should have clearly defeated both GingerHead and Martirosyan. He should have been ruling 154 with an iron fist for years. He does have that level of ability. It is frustrating because if he had fully realized his potential we would be facing a true superfight with 3G right now.
I understand your frustration but I appreciate cards like the other night. I received more value in those three fights than I have in several ppvs.
Re: How do you find this boxing year so far?
Still waiting for PBC to deliver the really big fights. Slow start to the year.
