Danny Green opponent confirmed as Kane Watts for Aug 3

Post by Like a Boss »

Danny Green hasn't fought a fellow Australian in a long time. But says his next opponent will be.

A few names seem to be being thrown around. Any clues on who it might be?

Brad Pitt has been huffing and puffing to blow Green's house down recently:

Won't be Watts if he wants to come down in weight IMO. Trent Broadhurst at 83-84kg is my guess.

Won't be Broadhurst. Wouldn't be a smart business move with a big money rematch with Choc on the cards.

It will be someone with a title - does Watts hold a belt ? If so, It'll be Watts.
Looks like the Choc fight is a goer.

Watts was the Australian cruiserweight champion about a year ago. But as far as I know he doesn't currently hold a title.

Held the Australian title. But it became vacant and Aaron Russell fought James Porter for it only days ago. Russell winning.

Watts vacated the title now won by Aaron Russell ( the junk yard dog ) over Jamie Porter on 4 June at the Mansfield Tavern.

I wouldn't be surprised if Green has held back the announcement of his fight until the Muhammad Ali media saturation eases a bit. It would be foolish trying to announce anything sports related at the moment when it would likely just go unnoticed or perhaps not even get reported.

Watts couldn't get down to 185ish without being completely drained. I think it will be a LHW coming up.

Goose, if that is the case I'd say it's definitely watts. Can really blame greeny for a bout like this at this stage of his career. He needs a win to generate general interest in a Mundine rematch

There is little doubt Green and Mundine are now both working towards a big money rematch and the priority in both camps will be to win fights and create interest in the leadup. Neither is likely to take much risk with opponents from here on. It is all about getting the propaganda machine into full swing and if people don't like what is on offer in the mean time don't buy it.

Well at least unlike Bolonti and the cancelled Konni Konrad at least he's giving a lowly ranked Aussie fighting out of his natural weight class a pay day and not a foreigner. :TU: (if it turns out to be Watts) but it will be funny hearing Greeny building up this contest as a stern test in the media and his backslappers lapping it up.

Building up fights in the media is what boxers do. It helps create interest in their fights and also helps sell tickets. Nobody is forcing anybody to listen to them promoting their fights or buying tickets to their fights.

I know that but it's still funny at least if it's Kane he's giving an Aussie plumber a pay day unlike Dominguez. :TU:

On December second, 42-year-old Danny Green will climb into the ring for his second fight after a 33-month lay off to fight German-based Montenegrin garbage man Konni Konrad.

Green has a long list of questionable opponents and Konrad is no exception. Konrad has a world ranking of 129 on the boxrec non-biased computerised rankings system. His record currently stands at 22 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, not to bad you might say? A closer look at Konrad’s record tells the real story, of his 22 wins 15 have come from fighting fighters who have lost more then 50 per cent of their fights, with the other 7 wins coming against fighters with less then impressive records.

In Konrad’s last bout he was was completely outclassed and stopped in seven rounds by WBA regular ‘champion’ Juergen Braehmer – Sergey Kovalev is the actual champion.

Green states that Konrad “is definitely going to be a very stern test.” and that “He’s a hungry young bloke who’s coming to take what I’ve got. We’ve chosen a guy who’s going to test me.” Perhaps Green’s looking for the stern type of test he got from South African club fighter Anthony van Niekerk when he made his first comeback in 2009, or when he fought Argentinean plumber Julio Cesar Dominguez for the farcical and largely unrecognised vacant IBO cruiserweight world title. And how could we forget Green’s ‘world title’ defence against a very ill Paul Briggs who had retired three years prior due to neurological problems

I read Green was planning on announcing his opponent last week. Perhaps Muhammad Ali's death has put the announcement back?

It can't be far away though.

Have noticed green has lost a lot of weight.. hope he doesn't drain too hard for the Mundine clash. Dont want excuses either way.

If he has lost a lot of weight it would suggest he is more likely to fight a light heavyweight than a cruiserweight. We'll soon find out.
