I was a vet against the Viet Nam War. I will always remember Ali for having the foresight and bravery to reject the draft and speak out against our involvement in Viet Nam. We had no compelling national interest to be carpet bombing a third world, war torn region that had endured decades of tragedy. Eventually Nixon gave up and pulled US troops out when it became obvious we couldn't win. It was a great victory for Ali and all war protestors. The other exciting thing I remember was the United States Supreme Court ruling unanimously in Ali's favor. They said Ali had every right to reject the draft to protest an immoral and unjust war.

The fight I remember was the first Quarry fight. That was also a great political victory also. There were US Senators and Congressmen who vowed that Ali would never be licensed to fight again or have his passport returned. These ridiculous haters were all defeated and beaten down by court decree one after another.
