Wilder vs Arreola apparently on for July 16th

Post by crusader »

So Arreola gets another WBC title fight even though in his last 4 bouts he was flattened by Stiverne, went life and death with clubfighter Curtis Harper, got a lucky draw against Fred Kassi, and then barely got past Travis Kauffman. Throughout these fights he's also shown declining punch resistance, going down multiple times and being hurt on numerous occasions, so I don't expect him to handle Deontay's shots too well.

Let's just hope for Chris's sake that he doesn't take too much of a beating, and that if he somehow pulls it out he doesn't get his win overturned due to a failed drug test (it's already happened twice).

Don't forget to say he was caught for using banned substances recently as well. TBH I didn't even know this guy was ranked by the WBC at all, that used to be the excuse to avoid Shannon Briggs. And Wilder was planning to drop the belt if he had to fight someone with a few nanograms of a banned substance in his pee right?

Wilder is a joke. I'll laugh my ass off if Arreola sparks him, but I know he won't.

Why would he do that? He has a slight punchers chance against Wilder, and he's faced more dangerous opponents than Wilder.

Arreola could wobble him. He's certainly undeserving but if Povetkin was a clean fighter than it wouldn't be happening. The disgraceful part of this fight is on Alexander.

Very true. Not always easy to find a replacement, but still wish it wasn't Arreola. WBC can't announce it until they re-insert Arreola back in the top 15 so it can be a title fight. Crap fight if it happens, but still just speculation. Like Saad said blame Povetkin for testing dirty if this fight happens. Povetkin kept us all from seeing a good match-up.

You're not going to find much better to fight Wilder on short notice. As much of a bum as he is on this forum, there is something about him that doesn't create a long line. No reason for him to wait any longer, pound Arreola and move on. If Fury wins, he might be able to get him in the fall.

If Arreola comes in shape at 240 or below he might last to the 3rd or 4th round

So they pick an opponent in Arreola who also recently failed a drug test and also recently suffered from a freak injury. :stop:

I don't want to beat up on Wilder because I don't know if the Povetkin cancellation had anything to do with his team, but couldn't they come up with a Ustinov or Pulev? Pulev is in shape from the Chisora fight.

Weed? Not exactly PEDvetkin stuff. Ustinov is fighting Ortiz and do you think Pulev would shoot on over to Alabama for a short notice, small purse fight?

I've written on here that I don't think they should test for weed, but they do.

The last thing Wilder needs with critics questioning everything from his recent weak opponents to sabotaging Povetkin's results, is his opponent failing another test, even for weed.

Pulev would get the WBC belt if he won, you'd think he'd jump at it considering some think Wilder is so bad. But seriously, even though I am a fan of Wilder, I don't think Wilder's team would accept a fight from Pulev unless it was mandated.

Why would Pulev jump at the chance for way less money? That's four weeks from now. Backlash is fine for Wilder, it means people care. What he needs is a fight to make some coin and stay active after waiting for Povetkin for months.

If Pulev won, he could demand more money for a unification fight with winner of Fury-Wlad 2.

With no WBC belt Pulev is just another contender.

With guys like Parker and Joshua waiting in the wing, and a probable unification down the road, Pulev may have to wait a long long tome for anything called a title shot.

Of course its all about the money, but logic would tell me Pulev wants Wilder more than Wilder wants Pulev.
