His style is completely suited to the amateurs and he has virtually no power in his shots.

He needs to be matched very carefully in order not to suffer another loss, and I think winning a couple rounds against Ruenroeng may be the best thing he ever does professionally.

Ajtai never exposed it but for someone with the amateur credentials of Shiming,his defence is terrible,im not sure if he's trying to hard to become a "pro" and he's just too long in the tooth to change and doesnt have the firepower to really sit down on his shots

I sure hope not. Putting him in against Ruenroeng was all wrong for him.

He needs to get in there with guys opposite to him -- squat, wide bangers -- not similar.

I was wondering what happened to Shiming. Last I remembered Shiming was promoted by Arum. Fought on HBO for a little bit then disappeared.

Yeah his styles seems to be TOO suited to the Ams. He can't quite get over the hurdle as a Pro. He's a skilled fighter no doubt, but I don't know if he'll ever become a World Champion...and yes 35 is ancient by Flyweight standards.

I agree his amateur achievements are outstanding, but that doesn't change the point that (in my view) he got the decision in the London 2012 final because of who he was rather than what he did, in that particular case. To me, he was clearly second best in that fight.

never gets mentioned but there was some awful judging in the boxing at the London olympics. Joshua is prime example. Almost everyone had Savon beating him, and would he have got the nod in the final if he wasn't from UK? Debatable.

I agree 100%. The only reason why I have no real issue with Joshua getting gold despite possibly three squeaky decisions is that Britons have been denied medals plenty of times in past Olympics through judging far worse (e.g. Minter in 1972, to take just one example). So I rather think several wrongs make a few rights, but I know that is rubbish logic!

Frankly, I admire the way Joshua always seems to be in the right place at the right time - London 2012 so he gets a gold that would have been less likely had the Olympics not been in London (i.e. it would only have taken one squeaky decision to go against him), then a heavyweight title shot against one of the weakest heavyweight belt holders since the WBC, WBA and IBF came into being. But good luck to him.
