RIP boxing writer & BHF member Jack Obermayer

Boxing writer Jack Obermayer has passed away age 72. Obermayer covered 3514 professional fight cards in 49 states in over 400 cities and was affectionately known as “KO-JO”. He wrote for many publications such Flash Gordon’s “Tonight’s Boxing Program”, Ring Magazine, Boxing Illustrated (later Boxing Digest) and USA Boxing News.

Obermayer penned the popular column “KO JO Says”, which chronicled his many road trips to fights and his love of classic diners. As a boxing fan based in California, I became acquainted with Jack "KO-JO" Obermeyer starting when he came out to California for boxing shows featuring Mathew Saad Muhammad in San Diego and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in Los Angeles during 1980. I later met up again with him when he came out for other boxing shows in California and Nevada. What a great fellow he was! Rest In Peace, Jack.
