Lucas Browne : I will get title shot. Just a matter of who.
http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2016/07/ ... ng-program
Rumours of a higher profile fight against David Haye in the UK are currently doing the rounds, but Oquendo is first in line and the more probable of the two opponents for Lucas Browne.
“David Haye is obviously an option for me and the money would interest me, of course, but at this moment nothing is confirmed,” Browne said.
“Ruslan Chagaev got stripped of his title so it's looking good for me but as I said before, nothing is confirmed.
"All I know it will be a title shot for me who ever it is and I'd prefer Oquendo first".
"A fight with Oquendo can take place he in Oz and I’d prefer that for my next fight. I’d say that is a probability because Oquendo is contracted,” he added.
Browne also revealed he is enlisted in the WBC clean boxing program and is open to VADA testing whenever and wherever the organisation wishes to take samples.
“I’m proud to announce my enrollment IN the WBC / VADA Clean Boxing program. I’m a clean athlete as I have always said and I'm available for testing at any time,” said Browne.

The court case was postponed until August 4th. It will be interesting to see whether they make it up the steps or not.

I disagree, It's obvious the Oquendo vs Chagaev would never happen due to history, They reinstate Browne to fight Oquendo & grant Chagaev a rematch if Browne wins, It also eliminates the waste of money going through the courts. The only issue would be Browne getting his fight purse from the Chagaev fight. If Browne defeats Oquendo, Browne would demand majority of the purse in a Chagaev rematch?Like a Boss wrote:It has that look about it.AntonS wrote:I gather WBA shite its pants

According to Dan Rafael, the official reason Ruslan Chagaev hasn't been reinstated WBA champion is that he and promoter Timur Dugazaev have repeatedly failed to pay $40,750 in sanctioning fees related to Chagaev fight against Fres Oquendo back in July 2014.GhostBoxing15 wrote:I disagree, It's obvious the Oquendo vs Chagaev would never happen due to history, They reinstate Browne to fight Oquendo & grant Chagaev a rematch if Browne wins, It also eliminates the waste of money going through the courts. In any case, Chagaev indicated after he lost to Browne he would retire, and that was before the Browne positive test came to light. Chagaev has made no indication since that he has changed his mind about retiring.
That the WBA would go public pre court case, offering what they describe themselves as an "olive branch" to Browne, is surprising and could easily be interpreted as a backdown. Remembering that the court case, instigated by Browne, is against the WBA and challenges the actions they took against him.

Further to that :
An excerpt from the WBA official website from author Robert Ecksel states:
“The deadline for receiving said fees was July 14, 2016, and the WBA received no such payment. As a result, Chagaev and his promoter are in breach of WBA rules and subject to sanction, including, but not limited to, removal of recognition and authorization to participate in WBA sanctioned bouts.”

They strip Chagaev for not paying a sanction fee in 2014 yet sanction a fight 2 years later vs Browne in 2016
Makes a lot of sense, Chagaev retired or not the Oquendo fight was never going to reach an agreement

All hypothetical with Chagaev having retired after Browne knocked him out.GhostBoxing15 wrote:They strip Chagaev for not paying a sanction fee in 2014 yet sanction a fight 2 years later vs Browne in 2016Makes a lot of sense, Chagaev retired or not the Oquendo fight was never going to reach an agreement
Just hope Browne lands a good fight now. Some good options appear to be opening up for him.

So the WBA will back flip on their own rules? 2 year ban on fighting for a WBA title if testing positive to a banned substance? Oquendo would be a safe fight for Browne, Browne needs some good wins to revive Australian Boxing & I believe many in the industry would be hoping the sameLike a Boss wrote:All hypothetical with Chagaev having retired after Browne knocked him out.GhostBoxing15 wrote:They strip Chagaev for not paying a sanction fee in 2014 yet sanction a fight 2 years later vs Browne in 2016Makes a lot of sense, Chagaev retired or not the Oquendo fight was never going to reach an agreement

With the court case due to start in a matter of days we may not have to wait long to find out.GhostBoxing15 wrote:So the WBA will back flip on their own rules? 2 year ban on fighting for a WBA title if testing positive to a banned substance?
