Mayweather could fight well after 40

Post by rivado »

Floyd has not taken much punishment during his career and his fighting style might help in prolonging his success. Hopkins was able to do it and Mayweather has always been in tremendous condition so he should be able to as well. His focus and ring experience is second to no one. Even with a loss hey may continue to sell tickets taking on the next generation of fighters. I can see Mayweather's name continue to generate interest although never earning the huge 9 digit payday he's been hoping for currently but that might be by his own doing.

Fighters who rely primarily on their speed and reflexes NEVER do well into their 40's. There has yet to be an exception to this. The fighters who have done well into their 40's had either, Lots of punching power, oodles of experience and craftiness, or both.

Floyd's definitely has experience and craftiness, but his style has always relied strongly on being the faster man in the ring. Quicker hands, quicker reflexes. He's not gonna have that kinda ability much longer...if he even has it anymore right now.

Here's the simple answer to that... Mayweather is not going to fight unless the can get the Conor McGregor fight with his terms.

The Welterweight Division is the strongest it's ever been... Errol Spence already beat the turds out of Floyd when he had 15 fights and Floyd was preparing for southpaw Guerrero... Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, and Shawn Porter are other Welterweights Floyd would never fight to save his life.

Agreed, but Floyd never takes a fight he doesnt know he can win. Yet to be an exception to this either!

I think people always believe a fighter will comeback. Most do. But some realise how much they have to lose. Joe Calzaghe couldve come back and made a fortune fighting Froch, but knew it was time to stay retired. Looks like Floyd will, sensibly, do the same.

All the talk of McGreggor. It was never going to happen and will never happen.
