Frampton V Selby

Post by danamba7 »

Double question...

Who wins?

And is there a higher skilled or more stylish all British (UK) fight out there?

Have to pick Frampton but Selby when he's on song is a tricky night for anyone. Not sure how their styles will gel?

Frampton wins handily. Selby isn't even as good as Quigg, never mind Santa Cruz.

After the Quigg fight more would have give Selby a chance, funny how one fight can change ppl's mindset.

Frampton was utterly brilliant against LSC but the way Leo ploughed forward relentlessly helped Carl big time. Selby would no doubt box on the back foot and set traps for Carl which if Selby's good enough could make it a long night's work for Carl.

Selby a bit to slick and big for Frampton.

Selby would be a tougher stylistic matchup for Frampton that LSC was. He has similar attributes to Cruz but actually uses them properly and is a cerebral fighter. I'd make him a favourite against Frampton.

The guy I think who would possibly beat all of them st featherweight is Gary Russell Jnr.

Frampton v Selby would certainly be a chess match. I'd still fancy Carl to adapt and get the W though.

Agree about Russell Jnr. He looks to be the danger man of the division. Apparently struggled to make 126 against Hyland and wants to avenge the Lomachenko defeat so it looks as if he may move up. Valdez also looks the business from what I've seen.

I see where you're coming from but I also wonder if some of the things Selby does 'wrongly' or in an unorthodox manner, might get found out against Framptons good solid fundamentals, just a little like Hamed-Barrera. It would definitely be a chessmatch

Frampton favourite just based on who he's beat and what I've seen, looks the more rounded adaptable fighter who can find a way to win - Selby hasn't really impressed me the last couple of fights, seems to be grinding it out a bit at world level whereas Frampton has shown genuine world class moments.

I think it's a good match but I'd be surprised if Selby beat Carl.

Yeah that's a fair point. Selby isn't the most technically sound fighter. I just wonder whether his height and reach advantages would cause Frampton a lot t trouble. Carl has got T-Rex like arms lol. Gary Russell Jnr is similar in that sense actually. I know LSC had those same advantages over Frampton but as we know he doesn't use them properly.

True. Saying that though, there was a lot that wrote frampton off after the Gonzalez fight when he was dropped twice in the 1st round and had some shaky rounds after that aswell. I think the same thing is happening with Selby somewhat because of his last few fights. I get the feeling that he's like frampton in that he performs better when it's a higher profile fight and the pressure is on. Otherwise he goes through the motions somewhat.

Selby would be too slick. I think Finbar would stay clear.

There was a picture going round twitter of the two of them side by side in New York. The size difference is massive.

That's the one - I had always known how much taller Selby was than Frampton, but what is surprising there is quite how much bigger his frame is as well.

Selby is lot bigger both weight and length. And unlike LSC he fights long. His defensive style, jab and constant circling will make it very hard for Frampton to get close and land punches.

Russel Jr is of course a big threat. But also lets not forget about Valdez. If he menages to get a shot at any of these Haymon fighters who knows, kid looks devastating.

To be fair Frampton is at weight and Selby hasn't fought in months and doesn't have a fight coming, so he is naturally going to have a bigger frame.

Levels.

Frampton is just the better all round fighter.

Selby is good, Frampton is very very good. He'd find a way to win in a messy fight.
