Welterweight Super Six

by Ruthless-RKO
I have just picked who I think are the top welterweights. I know I have missed out Pacman and Porter
  • Danny Garcia
    Keith Thurman
    Terence Crawford
    Errol Spence
    Kell Brook
    Timothy Bradley Jr
What would be the best match ups?

Who would win the tournament?

Didn't Crawford state after the Postol bout that he was only willing to face Pacquiao at 140lbs?

I think he will move up to 147 eventually, maybe in the next year or so. Regardless of if he fights pacman.

I'd pick Spence and I'd look forward to Spence/Crawford the most. I don't think Brook will ever see Welter again.

I'd also look forward to Garcia/Thurman. Danny is fun for most to hate, sickly underrated right now. If you go by resume he's top 3 p4p.

Imo Spence. Crawford and Bradley won't fight, doubt if Brook sees 147 again.

It's all the same people that mocked me for saying Garcia/Matthysse was a 50/50 fight.

Judah, Peterson,Guerrero, Malignaggi. I'm not claiming he's an ATG, but his resume is better than GGG's. I don't think resume matters for p4p considering it's not even real, but a lot of posters go that way. Her's more accomplished than Wlad.

I'd probably favor Spence in that Tournament, though I'd be very curious to see how Tim Bradley would do in those matchups as well. You'd probably have to replace Kell Brook with Shawn Porter because like Saad said I doubt we'll be seeing Brook return to 147.

Danny definitely has a good resume, but he's pissed all of his career momentum away since 2013 with basically no meaningful fights. Lamont Peterson was a good opponent post-Matthysse...and that's about it.

Fair enough, certainly better than GGG. My instinct is there are a couple of dudes with better rosters but id have to actually sit and think about it and i doubt it would make too much difference. Its that Chavez like, lot of solid but no tope fighters, there's a lot of depth to Garcias cv...id forgotten Judah and malignaggi

2012 Morales SUPER ROIDS + coming off a TKO win and a good loss to Maidana
2013 Khan
2013 Mattysse :o
2015 Peterson
2016 ________

In between all that, you have solid wins against
2013 Judah Zab's last stand
2015 Malinaggi To this day, only very good fighters stop Paulie
2016 Guerrero Fights everyone tough

Herrera - An ugly fight that was close. In a distraction trap fight. But everyone has one of those.
Salka & Morales II - Paydays, thanks Al

MOST IMPORTANTLY, every win (except the Herrera mess) was clear in favor of Danny.

Since 2012, how many guys can match that?

A bit of a fact check here. Matthysse was in 2013. Khan was in 2012. Malignaggi is shot and is no competition at all for any of the Top Welterweights anymore. Guerrero is a punching bag for people because he fought Floyd Mayweather once, he's finished also, but he'll get used as a stepping stone on a few more guys' records before he fades away...probably Spence and Porter.

Morales wasn't on steroids. If you're referring to his negative drug test he tested positive for diuretics which is something that will make you piss more and lose weight faster. A banned substance, but not a performance enhancer.

Yea ... wasn't on steroids ... in a sudden late career resurgence in a higher weight class ... :witzend:

How is Guerrero finished? He's what he always been at 147.
Lost to Mayweather, Thurman and Garcia ... duh.
Had a tough fight against Martinez. Happens.

I don't think Guerrero is quite what he once was, but he never was all that great to begin with. He's a tough guy who is a problem for the fringe contenders, and at one time the guys in the lower Top 10...I don't think he beats any Top 10 Welterweight now.

Morales never tested positive for Steroids. That's a fact.

I think that war with Kamegai took a lot out of Guerrero too.

It was a fat burner so used for a similar type of purpose as a diuretic though. Not a steroid.

Seems the abundance of GGG but huggers are picking Brook simply to justify GGG fighting someone 2 divisions smaller than him. :OhYes:

Did Marvin Hagler need justification to fight Roberto Duran? Did Carlos Monzon need justification to fight Jose Napoles? The #1 Middleweight vs The #1 Welterweight is not an uncommon occurrence in Boxing history. Especially when the aforementioned Middleweight has already basically cleaned out the division.

Neither GGG or Brook deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as Hagler and Duran.....not yet anyway, so stop it Gil. If it's a good fight I will be back here to admit I'm wrong, but this is a mismatch.
