I think both are in the same level of pound per pound greatness. I'd give the edge to the great Pernell Whitaker

I'd probably have to go with Pacquiao.
Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
Pacquiao won his 1st World Title at 112 and beat Oscar De La Hoya at 147... Whitaker won his 1st World Title at 135 and lost to De La Hoya... He also lost to Felix Trinidad who I figure Pacquiao would have little problem beating, fighting him the way Winky Wright did... Those fights don't represent prime DLH or Trinidad -- I just figure Pac would be too fast and slick for Whitaker anytime they fought, and he accomplished a lot more.

You've got your gobbledeegook generator turned on again. Pac "too slick" for Sweet Pea? Please. Even if he beat Whitaker, which I would call a long shot, that's not the fight plan to use....it would work about as well as it did with Floyd.
Or did Pac win that fight? Cuz some folks thought he did. Did your name appear in that minority report?

Very close, same tier for me. While I try to refrain from using a h2h fight as a barometer, when it's that close it's the tiebreaker. Pea would have beaten Manny easily.

Pacman would win in my opinion So this time we agree
Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
A slight edge to Pacquiao on the resume. Head to head Whitaker would have beaten Pacquiao 9 out of 10 times, a bad match-up for Pacquiao.

I think Trinidad would've beaten Pacquiao. Pacquiao doesn't fight anything like Winky except occasionally putting his hands up in the Peek a boo style. Trinidad big and he isn't Margarito and is sometimes underrated.
That said, I didn't choose because their pretty much equal. I think Pacquiao overachieved while Whitaker underachieved.

Pacquiao has the better resume.

I would also go with Pacquiao. However, the earlier comment about Whitaker being an underachiever is ridiculous. He had wins over Azumah Nelson, Julio Cesar Vasquez, and should have had one against Chavez. Also had nice wins over very good fighters like McGirt, Ramirez, Haugen, and Mayweather. His only loss close to his prime was a bad decision.

Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
- Manny is the mountain in this comparison and Pea the molehill though there will always be those disheveled disputatious types making mountains out of molehills. Ex: the gibbering jiggery pokery of catchweights ignores there is only one true weight, the open class, now dumbed down to heavyweight class. All modern divisions are catchweight fights, and their junior divisions are junior catchweights, and those between them are minicatchweights and how many 100k + catchweights is that every year?
Ex: Cotto came in at 145 against Manny, 1lb less than his previous 146 weight. He could've come in at 147 and the fight would still be on, but he would've forfeited his $500K to lose the extra lb. He probably weighed 15 lbs more the day of the fight, so it was no big deal, just mo' money for his kitty.
Resumes, lessee, Manny 58-6-2, 38 KO to Pea 40-4-1, 17 KO, Pea deep in the hole already, so how'd they do against the P4P best of their eras? Manny 9-5-1, 5 KO to Pea 1-2-10 KO, so Pea about 50' under. Pea no great series, but Manny with 4 great series set the record for the most P4P fights, wins, KOs with the most consecutive weeks on Ring P4P ratings, 12 years total, and nobody within missile range of any of those figures that will likely stand beyond when you sweeties pass on to your wretched reincarnations.
I liked Pea starting out, but he became a cracked up clown and you can't spin it any other way. In the news for evicting him mom just a few years back. The 19 yr old Manny was offered as a human cockfighting sacrifice against the great prime Thai fly champ Sasakul in Thailand, but instead blew him out of the of the ring easy as pie. What'd he make for that fight, 100 bucks? No Americans of his era or the previous could ever accomplish what he did, but moaners gonna moan for their pretty posterboy posers, your zeroes.

Catchweights can be annoying, but if you're docking Manny for them I hope you don't hold guys like Leonard, Chavez, oscar, Armstrong,Floyd, Marquez, etc.. in high regard. Manny is certainly a hypocrite in a million ways, catchweights being one of them.
Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
Manny has a better resume--although he has far too many unnecessary rematch to my liking.
Sweet Pea would probably edge out a decision in their primes.

I agree with this pretty popular opinion, that Pacquiao resume is a bit better, but Whitaker would have won in their fight.

Hard to pick. Maybe Whitaker by a hair.
Pacquiao would get the nod by many because he was a more dynamic fighter. He would catch your attention more.
But Whitaker was a ring master. A defensive whiz.
Nobody put him to sleep like Marquez did Pacquiao or outbox him silly like Mayweather did to Pac.
In a matchup between the 2 from 135 to 147, Whitaker would frustrate and handcuff the Filipino for 12 rounds.

BuzzBox....your dead brain is on low ebb again... Prime Whitaker was beaten by a green De La Hoya 116-110 on 2 cards.... Pacman beat Oscar every round by 100,000 miles and stopped the slowpoke... Wilfredo Rivera out-boxed Whitaker as well... Shane Mosley dominated Wilfredo Rivera and knocked him out... Pacquiao dominated Mosley and put him on the canvas... Pacquiao would box rings around Whitaker... Floyd beating a defunct, elderly, and injured Pacman is irrelevant.BoxBuzz wrote: ↑06 Sep 2016, 11:29Kalan wrote:Pacquiao won his 1st World Title at 112 and beat Oscar De La Hoya at 147... I thought Whitaker eked out a win over ODLH. Most agree.Kalan wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 20:44BuzzBox....your dead brain is on low ebb again... And I don't think that Whitaker was in his prime any longer when he fought Oscar. His prime probably ended beginning 2 years earlier when he struggled with Rivera and was fortunate to overcome Hurtado with a late KO.
Whitaker was definitely on the downside when he faced Oscar. But he fought well and deserved a close decision.
I couldn't see Pacquiao solving a prime Whitaker if you scheduled a fight between them for 30 rounds.
Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
But for 12 rounds, which is what they would fight ... Pacquiao is too fast, sharp, powerful, and would overwhelm Whitaker with volume and accuracy like DLH did... Only he'd be in his face more and ripping from a lot more angles...
I like the peak Pacquiao who obliterated Ricky Hatton in 2 rounds at 140... He was fast, busy, accurate, and potent.

Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
So, you don't see any difference between the Oscar De La Hoya that fought Whitaker and the De La Hoya that fought Pacquiao? You are probably spot on, but once again, you would be seeing things in the ring that nobody else sees.Kalan wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 20:44BuzzBox....your dead brain is on low ebb again... Re: Who has the better resume Pernell Whitaker or Manny Pacquiao?
There's a definite difference.... But not as big as the difference between the performances of Pacquiao and Pernell.
