How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
No matter if you think he's the GOAT, or a big useless lucky lump, or something in between, I think one thing we can agree is he's one odd fighter. He's a giant at 6'9"with an 85" reach, he feints and he switches, he's a very strange fighter. How can someone properly prepare for someone like that?
Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
You have to spar people like Vitali, Wilder, Ustinov, Price, etc..
Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
Clean focused in shape and motivated would help.

Get in shape and counter the hell out of him.
Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
I think the key to beating him is attacking his body, big time. If you head hunt a guy that tall, it just isn't going to work unless you mix it up. His body certainly looks soft, and vulnerable. Everyone's body is vulnerable. Imagine someone like Joshua or Wilder landing thunderous shots to Fury's body? Fury pulls his trunks up to his chest as far as possible for a reason.
Wlad could have been even a greater champion than he was, also Ali, if they would have went to the body more imo.

Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
If there was defensive heavyweight fighter, he would beat Fury 12-0.
Fury is a bum. He wouldn't land a punch on many fighters under 175. (EDIT - I take this back)
Most fighters these days can't fight. Most 175 pound fighters would try to fight like Cunningham because they're stupid.
If someone fought Fury, like Fury fought Wlad, RUNNING. It would be an easy win.
He does not have the footwork to compete against anyone moving him.
Ward should rush to fight him.
It would be an easy 12-0, and Fury wouldn't land a single punch.

Right, after checking out from a Nevada hospital in late November, Ward should sign to fight Fury just to be sent backBAD INTENTIONS wrote: Ward should rush to fight him.

Kovalev maybe, no shame in that.boxing_rocks wrote:Right, after checking out from a Nevada hospital in late November, Ward should sign to fight Fury just to be sent backBAD INTENTIONS wrote: Ward should rush to fight him.
Ward VS Fury would look like a 500 pound man chasing a chicken.

Agreed, kovalev would beat him too. Great last fight for Hopkins.

Kovalev would beat Fury for sure, but Ward, no way. I don't see how Ward could possibly throw and land enough given the size differential and lol at the thought of him clinching Fury.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Agreed, kovalev would beat him too. Great last fight for Hopkins.

Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
There's some serious underrating of Fury going on here. He has underrated boxing skills - particularly at close range - a good boxing brain and good handspeed for such a big man. That said, he lacks a big punch and doesn't have the best chin, so I could see guys like Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis walking him down and stopping him early. Anthony Joshua may well be able to do the same if he has the footspeed and conditioning to keep up with Fury, which for me remains an open question at the moment. Wilder certainly has the power to stop Fury, but I see the Brit as having a big edge in boxing skills and savvy in that matchup, so I'd only give Wilder a puncher's chance.
Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
Id have to go on a diet of beer and pies and cut training to three days a fortnight just to give him a chance.

That's the trouble, none of them are even southpaws.Lackeos wrote:You have to spar people like Vitali, Wilder, Ustinov, Price, etc..

If he was alive and maybe 10 or 15 years younger the South African Heavyweight Corrie Sanders would have been handy. On the current stage Tony Thompson is 43 and pretty much on his way out, Ruslan Chagaev is too old and too small. Zhang Zhilei is still fighting bums if you are talking opponents but could be a useful spar though.BitPlayer wrote:That's the trouble, none of them are even southpaws.Lackeos wrote:You have to spar people like Vitali, Wilder, Ustinov, Price, etc..

I still think a quick footed banger would give him problems.
David Haye has a style that Fury would find hard with.
Fury is a master of using his height and reach though.

Not a bad idea for sparring. Last time didn't Wlad (and Fury) spar with kickboxers, I don't know if any of them are more suitable.IRLangmaid25 wrote:If he was alive and maybe 10 or 15 years younger the South African Heavyweight Corrie Sanders would have been handy. Looking through the rankings, it really is slim pickings for big southpaws.
Charles Martin and Francesco Pianeta are 6'5", Otto Wallin 6'5 1/2". Vladimir Tereshkin is 6'6" but judging by his record he's pretty poor.

Nothing special. I'd just turn up on the night and introduce him to my two friends thunder and lightening
He couldn't live with Stuarty30
Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
Stylistically, a Frazier or Mike Tyson in their prime would give Fury fits.
A short guy getting even lower and going to the body is something TF wouldn't fancy.

Re: How would you prepare to fight Tyson Fury?
If the question is literal, (considering I'm over 50 & weigh about 150), I'd let him hit me, get KOd, take the money and run, and have x2X talk about me taking a dive.

Prepare? I'd slag off his family, his heritage etc and get him wound up. When he's angry and off his game he is very beatable.

Training to unleash a hellish, non-stop body attack is exactly what Wlad's people should have had him working on for the past year. If not, then I'd have to say that I've lost a LOT of faith in them & I'd have to seriously question their competency, because it's just such an obvious tactic that would have clearly allowed Klitschko to retain his title last November.
