He should be in for life really. How many years rehabilitation did he do? 20 was it? Then gets found in some girl's house at mid night a few years later - no changing Tony Ayala it seems. His Dad was an absolute nutter too.
His other son, Mike, was on and off heroin for most of his fighting career, even while training for one of the greatest fights ever seen, against Little Red Lopez.

It comes down to genetics and/or brain chemistry, some people are just mental and cannot help themselves.

On my copy of the Yory Boy fight (which was a cracking little match) they showed an interview with Ayala where he seemed to have his head well and truly screwed on. He was obviously trying to fool everyone, including himself.

Yes I read an interview with him just before his release, and he sounded such a humble, changed man....
I was a huge fan of Ayala in the 80's. He was an absolute animal in the ring - and out of it too, though we didn't know it at the time. There were various rumours, but the Duvas always bailed him out with a few quid slipped here and there.

Even as an amateur, you'd hear stories about the young 15 year old who had pullverized world champ Pipino Cuevas in the gym.

He was headed for a super fight with Duran, just before the world came crashing down around him.

Just proves that he couldn't help himself. Some people just have a streak in them which is inbred, he's probably been nuts since an early age, and they can really do little or nothing to change that. He probably belongs in a mental institution not jail.

That throws things in a different light, poor bugger.

However, there is probably a sexually deviant trait running through the family.
