Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
Can Saunders be any more unlucky?Queensberry Promotions received news today that WBO world middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders had suffered a muscle injury and would be unable to defend against Artur Akavov on October 22 at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena. Unfortunately, on the same day British super-welterweight champion, Liam Williams also suffered an injury in sparring that prevents him from defending his British title against Ahmet Patterson on the same bill.
Consequently, postponement was the only option to maintain the strength of the card, and as such the event will now take place on Saturday November 26 at the same venue.
Promoter allegedly said: “We have obviously not had a lot of luck with this event, first of all being let down by Chris Eubank Jnr and now the two main fights on a card falling out on the same day. We have no choice but to postpone the card to a month later so everyone is given time to recover.
“I apologise to the fans for any inconvenience this may cause. It is extremely frustrating as the event is already essentially sold out and we were all geared up for a cracking night of boxing on October 22 in Cardiff. I am particularly gutted for Tommy Langford who has sold around 2,000 tickets for his British Middleweight title challenge against Sam Sheedy, but I’m sure his support will no doubt still be out in force on the November 26.”
allegedly will still have live action from the UK on Saturday October 22 when The Channel of Champions will switch their attention to Bolton’s Premier Suite with Jamie Cox, Matty Askin and Paul Butler co-headlining a card promoted by Steve Wood.
Tickets purchased for the October 22 event will still be valid for the new date of November 26 at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff.
Re: Cardiff bill postponed
I really do feel for anyone that may have booked a hotel for this. I'll never buy tickets for one of F.rank's shows outside of the North West region.

I think I might be cancelling allegedly next year.
Their domestic output has been utterly pathetic.

Who cares ? Not me
Re: Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
I cancelled mine the first time the Fury fight got pulled but it somehow still works on the HD/live events channel. I'll happily subscribe to it again once they sort out their domestic schedule, which has been terrible of late.Horse wrote:I think I might be cancelling allegedly next year.

I'd be curious to know what the ticket sales were looking like before these 'injuries' happened...

Get your hotel on booking.com! That's what I always do, then if I don't get tickets or if it moves it's free cancellationDannyMCR wrote:I really do feel for anyone that may have booked a hotel for this. I'll never buy tickets for one of F.rank's shows outside of the North West region.

Ticket sales were good - I bought my ticket for this when it was first announced but checked availability again the other day just out of interest, there weren't many seats left.Deserter wrote:Call me cynical...mickey1975 wrote:It does say "essentially sold out".Deserter wrote:I'd be curious to know what the ticket sales were looking like before these 'injuries' happened...

But presumably hard to ascertain how many of the 'sold' seats have genuinely shifted or whether it's window dressing. I don't know how big a ticket seller Williams is, but BJS finds it hard to fill arenas on his home turf let alone in Wales.Boxerbeetle wrote:Ticket sales were good - I bought my ticket for this when it was first announced but checked availability again the other day just out of interest, there weren't many seats left.Deserter wrote:Call me cynical...mickey1975 wrote: It does say "essentially sold out".
Either way you cut it the whole thing is a fiasco.

I imagine a fair number of tickets were sold on the back of Eubank Jr-Langford, but obviously that fell apart very early on. Doubt BJS added any sales at all tbh, especially given his opposition. It is very disappointing, but hopefully the card goes ahead relatively unscathed in November.Deserter wrote:But presumably hard to ascertain how many of the 'sold' seats have genuinely shifted or whether it's window dressing. Saunders is starting to become irrelevant. The opponent was garbage to begin with and the constant cancellations/pulling out of fights injured doesn't help his cause.
He could have fought Monroe jnr or Rosa on the Canelo undercard but turned them down as they didn't "progress his career"
Not sure how fighting the chap he's scheduled to fight exactly progresses it either however.

Out of interest do you know how I'd be able to watch the international shows if I cancelled allegedly? I too agree that their domestic output is awful, but watch an awful lot of their overseas stuffHorse wrote:I think I might be cancelling allegedly next year.

Re: Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
I'm calling bullshit on the tickets being nearly sold out, just an opinion.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
BN doesn't seem to be doing very well this weather does it? I'm getting more and more perplexed as the weeks go on. Obviously these things can't be helped but it's too often an occurrence with BN and Fwank!
Re: Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
Williams did well over 1k on his own for the Corcoran fight, think he was looking at similar numbers for this one too and Langford's sold nearly 2k, can't see ticket sales being the issue here, those two alone had sold 60% of the tickets.Deserter wrote:But presumably hard to ascertain how many of the 'sold' seats have genuinely shifted or whether it's window dressing. Trouble is Wales are playing South Africa in the Millenium Stadium the same day.. those with hotel rooms for the original date will find it nearly impossible to get a room on the 26th November.. great planning!

Re: Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams injured: October 22 show postponed
Well at least they are saving money on prepping press releases, just resending the often used "BJS has sustained an injury and will be unable to fight on the scheduled date" one. Well I assume they are smart enough to only have one prepped with no specifics so they just set it to send on autosend every time he is training for a fight
