Shiming vs Onesongchai Gym for vacant title?!?!?!

Post by klitoris »

So I just noticed that the Zou Shiming vs Prasitsak Papoem (Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym) is now for the vacant title.

They are both 2 and 3 in the WBO rankings. Donnie Nietes is #1.

I'm wondering, was Nietes offered to fight for the title after Estrada vacated, or did Arum make them sidestep NIetes? Or did Nietes refuse the title shot?

What happened is ... someone got paid.

It was only a matter of time until Arum weaseled Zou into another title fight. And this time, instead of fighting an active champ, he'll be fighting some washed up nobody (one he already beat, no less) for a vacant title, so he can actually win.

If Nietes accepted step aside money, then I'd be fine with it. I'm just wondering if Donnie got screwed over.

Nietes getting paid isn't really what I'm talking about, although it would tell part of the story.

I was referring to whatever palms had to be greased to get Zou and Papoem ranked highly enough to fight for a vacant title.

Donnie hadn't actually moved up when this bout was arranged, it was just a case of waiting for the bits to fit in place. The Thai's had reported the bout WEEKS before it was officially announced and it seems like they knew of Estrada's plans to vacate as everything had been in place whilst Nietes was still the 108lb title holder, though had stated his intent to move up.

Interestingly when the bout was said to have been done by the Thai's, Kwanpichit was #1 ranked and Zou was #2 ranked.

Note- I'm not defending the bout, think it's absolute horseshit that either are in the top 5 by any organisation...in fact top 10 is a stretch
