The All-Time Top 25 Super Flyweights

Post by elmersalsa »

Hello again my friends. Today I am selecting my top picks of the 25 best boxers of the super flyweight division history. A very young division, indeed. It started in 1979. It was not hard to pick the very best of that class history. But many of those boxers were chosen in their respective achievements and accomplishments done at the weight class.

You ask yourself, what is a super flyweight? A Jr. Bantamweight or a bigger version of a flyweight? Who created this division anyway? And for what purpose? To have more championship fights? To protect the flyweight boxers to step gradually to bantamweight? Or it was just one reason only for the alphabet organizations: Money.

Of the 17 weight classifications of today's boxing, this division is one of the least popular. To many, it's a division that doesn't make any sense. Either a boxer is flyweight or a bantamweight. He couldn't be in between in the views of many.

But, since is a weight classification like any other, the boxers that participated in this class are judged as such. Some could have been great bantamweight boxers if this division was never created: Khaosai Galaxy, Sung Kil Moon, Johnny Tapia and Gilberto Roman to name a few. Or probably, they would have been great flyweight boxers. But difficulty to make the flyweight class was a drag and to make it to bantamweight was a heavier task.

Of the top 25 of this weight division, only Galaxy, the Thai Tyson, is considered a top 100 great boxer pound per pound. He is the only 115pounder to make it to the International Boxing Hall of Fame so far of this group.

These are the top 25 best, or greatest super flyweight boxers ever:
