Great Fighters Coming To Britain

Without doing too much research I can think of the following :

Henry Armstrong fought Ernie Roderick
Sugar Ray fought Randolph Turpin
Cassius Clay fought Henry Cooper
Bob Foster fought Chris Finnegan
Jose Napoles fought Ralph Charles
Don Curry fought Colin Jones

The various Promoters of those fights got these great fighters over here and either got the British guy at shot at a proper title on home soil or in the case of Cooper / Clay in 1963 the chance of a prestigious win .
Now , for whatever reason , its proving impossible to get even run of the mill guys like Sharmba Mitchell and Vivian Harris to fight here .
Why the hell should that be ?

I'm not sure he qualifies for 'great' but Winky Wright fought over here a few times fairly recently compared to those names.

Gerald McCellan in 1991 & 1995

George Foreman (I can't remember the year)

Mike Tyson twice in 2000

There was talk of De La Hoya coming over, but it never materialised.

One of the best displays by a visiting fighter has to be Floyd Patterson's fourth-round knockout of Henry Cooper in September 1966 at Wembley. Patterson's fists were a blur that night.

Pedrosa was also a GREAT fighter, he'd been unbeaten as champion for a long time.

But he was born here and lived here until he was 12 and by the time he was 22 he was back turning professional.
