Danny Williams TKO'ed by 53 y.o. Andreas Sidon?

Post by Boxing Writer »

Does anybody know is it true? "Found out Andreas Sidon won TKO 5 over the aforementioned Danny Williams yesterday" - https://twitter.com/JArkin770/status/797864814139809792

Of course, Williams is old and shot, but even at 43 he shouldn't be losing to a 53-years-old guy who even in his prime never was anything more than a low-level European journeyman.

What a sad state of affairs for a popular cult figure in British boxing. He obviously just turns up to fall over nowadays!

Was it a title fight? Only I noticed that Sidon won the vacant World Boxing Board heavyweight title in his last fight.

Won his previous two going into it, good enough form for shot at Haye ;-)

In seriousness is it for the money due to poor finances over the years or can't let go of the sport?

Remember Williams Airich? Without doubt up there as one of the most blatant corrupt fights ever. You see things like guys taking dives, but ref taking points off randomly and the home guys promoter ringing the timekeepers bell with 1min 28 of a round left cos his guy taking a flurry!! Absolute madness.

I love watching that! As bad as it was, it's just fvcking ridiculous. Obviously what makes it is Danny getting the win in the end despite everything against him

I would assume he got hit more than a few times over the course of 5 rounds.

About as corrupt as it can get. I've only seen one other fight where the corruption was on this level. I forget the fighters names, but the guys corner was allowed to hold him up by his shorts, and he got like a full 30 seconds or so to recover because he was out on his feet.

I think you may mean Juan Martin Coggi vs Eder Gonzalez, which is on top for me when it comes to blatant corruption in pro boxing. It sucks even worse than Williams-Airich IMO, because Coggi went on to win after being saved.

Salif-Petkovic and Kretschman-Bakhtov II were dreadful as well, and guess who was promoting those fights? Ahmet Oner, the same guy who put on Airich-Williams....

Wow. Surely that bastard has been banned from the sport by now huh? And yes indeed Coggi vs Gonzalez is the fight I was mentioning. That was just despicable.

all at once?

On an individual one to one basis, i think i would do quite well against danny. Id be in there, throwing my full arsenal of shots, doubling up the uppercuts and looking the part. Then Danny would make his ring entrance :0)

You'd probably still look better than me. I'd look like that episode of The Simpsons when Homer was a boxer, and he struggled to get through the ropes.
