WWII. This particular matchup takes years off Ward's career not Kovalev.

Kovalev was supposed to knock him out, and didn't manage to do it. Ward lost this fight, but he got better as the fight went on. I think Kovalev wouldn't have KO'd him, even if it went 30 rounds.
