Kubrat Pulev Vacates EBU Title

There were no purse bids (November 21) in Rome for Kubrat Pulev´s defence of the EBU heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Mariusz Wach of Poland.

Instead Pulev relinquished the title to concentrate on his fight December 3 in Sofia against former WBC world champion Samuel Peter. They will battle for the vacant WBA Intercontinental crown..

I would think you wouldn't cancel a European title fight for a tune up against Sam Peter.

Bizarre. I thought he declined the Joshua offer because he wanted to defend his European title?

Then again he will be Joshua's mandatory after the rankings reset. Perhaps he's setting himself for a mandatory shot, which means he'll be able to demand a bigger purse.
