Andre Ward is similar to Sven Ottke

Post by Freedom2013 »

- feather-fisted
- refuses to leave home country
- uses home country referees
- country supports him for winning Olympic Gold
- judges always give him close rounds

Only differences are:

1) although Sven was gifted a few decisions, he never won a clear robbery like Ward-Kovalev

2) Sven was more honorable, he didn't use head butts and other illegal tactics

Ward is obviously a much better fighter, but there are similarities.

Ward doesn't seem very popular on this forum for some reason. Yet another thread trying to do him down. It's getting boring.

I am unbiased person, despise racism/nationalism/religious chauvinism. So, my opinion about Ward (as boxer) is :
- an excellent skillset
-an average puncher
-an excellent stamina
-a very decent chin
- "x factor" - can not be explained properly, but exists....
- dirty tactics, from time to time
- not so exciting style, not attractive for casual fans
- a great self-confidence

He is a great fighter, obviously....But, I think he ought to stay at LHW...Simply, he has no chance at HW (even CW).

I haven't seen it in years and years but I remember feeling Reid was robbed against Otke.

IIRC, there were quite a few very gifted decisions that went the Ottke way.

Reid was an unlucky guy; he arguably got robbed against Calzaghe too.

Yeah I believe so, I never liked him much as a fighter. Saw few of his fights really.

Yeah that was close, definitely could have gone either way. People talk about Hopkins but Reid was definitely Calzaghe's toughest fight. Not see that in a long time either, the version on YT is awful so I turned it off.

Reid gets mentioned a lot, but what were the other robberies?

Calzaghe fight was very close, the Ottke fight was a total stich up job, the ref wouldn't even let him punch, warned him for hitting Ottke, and totally ignored a blatant knockdown.

Tillerman has never even refereed a high profile professional fight before, he was an amateur judge, and then mysteriously gets the job.

If Reid had knocked Ottke spark out, they'd have DQ'd him.

No, Calzaghe won the fight.

Reid himself said in an interview directly after the fight Joe won.

Perhaps.

And Kovalev would have been DQed on Saturday if he had knocked Ward out.

the word 'robbery' is used with astonishing peremptoriness (?is that even a word? lol) by boxing fans
