Billy Joe Saunders and Tyson Fury

Post by dalcumly »

Saw Saunders in the flesh for the first time last night, and although he himself admitted it was a poor performance, I've got to say he is a quality middleweight. His punches were very accurate and each one had a fair dig behind it. He was knackered in the last round but to be honest is that not what should be the case, 'landing the plane on the runway after a long flight ' . I saw enough to convince me he deserves to be ranked in the top ten in the world. A word too for a very capable opponent who only lacked one thing- a punch! Its likely though that Eubank would beat Saunders in a rematch, and a Golovkin fight would be exciting while it lasted. Saunders, being the tough nut that he is, would have to be rescued by the ref or his corner, but Golovkin what not come out unmarked.
Tyson Fury. I just like the big guy. He appeared last night at ringside to support his pal and by the looks of him sitting there, it looked like a brave thing for him to do. He looked extremely ill at ease, and although he made an effort to pose for photos and sign autographs, he wasn't his usual self - very subdued. Even in the ring before the fight, watching him closely, he was nervous and just looked like big shy lad made to stand in front of a class and recite a poem he'd learned. Unfortunately for Tyson at 6'9" you can't hide.
Having read all the shenanigans over the last 8 weeks he's attracted a lot of opinion, good and bad, but trust me, he's more to be pitied than scolded. Its unusual to feel sorry for a giant who happens to be the former heavyweight champion of the world, but I do feel sorry for him. I think there's a real danger we'll never see him back in a boxing ring.

Let's hope he can get back to his loveable old rogue days of telling women who have abortions that they're the equivalent of a paedophile.

He made a direct comparison between legalised abortion, homosexuality and paedophilia. The guy is absolute grade-A scum.

The venue was reasonably full but plenty of seats left. Strange event. Very little publicity for a world title fight. Atmosphere (or lack of it) unreal, probably due to no Scottish boxer in the big fights. Catterall and Butler fights were little more than workouts and would have better over 6 or 8 rounds.

Saunders was totally out of shape, he should never have had to hang on through round 11 after fighting at that pace.

Yeah sorry mate, when I said he was scum it was tongue in cheek. I find the best way for people to work out you're having a joke is to become seemingly obsessed with something and keep talking about it all the time.

Personally I think I'm at my funniest when people can't tell if I'm joking or not, almost as if I'm not joking at all, and find what I'm saying to be really stupid, misjudged and offensive. Fortunately, if people are all pathetic about it and get upset there's a bunch of fat white guys who laugh at my "tongue in cheek" offensive crap (but also openly agree with it, almost as if it isn't actually tongue in cheek at all) to White Knight me and stick up for me.

I have been in Tyson Fury's company & the fella is 1st class, I agree he says things he shouldn't but nobodies perfect. I was with him in Norwich not so long ago at a boxing event & he didn't refuse one single fan a photo or autograph, some are not as friendly. I hope he puts his problems behind him gives the big Ukrainian a 2nd beating & go on from there. Tyson, come back even stronger a lot of fight fans like you.

I'm gong to put this to bed for me. There are loads of nice people with odious views, or people that are personable and likeable that have done terrible things. I remember a friend I had years ago who I liked a lot but was unashamedly BNP. When I go down the gym, a load of the lads I will talk to will openly use the term "paki" and roll their eyes at the mention of refugees and asylum seekers despite Indians and Eastern Europeans training in the same gym.

Being a dickhead doesn't make you an all round bad person. This is what Guardian reading hand wringer types struggle to understand. They have a very black and white view on things. So, actually, I think Fury (on form) would be very good company and if I were to cross paths with him I would love to chat with him etc.

HOEVER. Fury is famous and going to get quoted on what he says, and people are NOT going to like it: it's one thing moaning around people that you know in a knee jerk fashion, it's quite the other thing voicing it on an international public pedestal. Political Correctness, for all it's faults, is ultimately about trying to be fair to people: you shouldn't say things that upset people and then not expect them to get upset. Also, seeing as Fury is a 6'9" heavyweight champion and his family are a bunch of notorious cat A prisoners, don't you think that they run the risk of looking like a bunch of big ignorant bullies? The verbal targets seem to be women and gay people, who aren't exactly going to be able to say much back and traditionally had to struggle for acceptance and experience all sorts of prejudice. He's not a freedom fighter or a revolutionary (like say Ali who said all
Sorts of offensive things during a very politically charged time but was ultimately championing the rights of his people who had been oppressed and bullied for years) he's spouting the same unreconstructed boorish ignorant crap pissed up fat blokes have been gassing on about for years. It's Stone Age bollocks and he can say it but he shouldn't cry when people call him on it. It's not tongue in cheek: he means it and all the people that like him and defend him agree with him and would just do better to admit it.

Also, a lot of the stuff is really weird. Him going on about that plastic doll for paedophiles to have sex with go, "that's normal now, isn't it?" No it isn't Tyson! The article was basically saying some bloke had invented it and they were trying to figure out how to outlaw it: what laws could they use to stop it being manufactured? Not "this is legal now and it's good, isn't it?" All this end of the days, the "devil coming home" (what the fornicate does that mean?) stuff... It's all mental. Why's his uncle encouraging that? Filming that? Then putting it on YouTube? It's WEIRD. It's disturbed.

Then you've got BJ Saunders, pretending to be a copper and pulling people over getting them to strip naked and filming it! What in the actual fornicate? And there's just videos of him bullying people: shagging some bloke's misses and then ringing him to tell him, putting his phone number and name up on line. Unbelievable.

All the crying and moaning after the fact as well, calling it a witch hunt and saying how disgusting it is, is pathetic really. These big tough blokes think they can do what they want because they can beat everybody up. That's what it comes down to. And when they can't, they quite literally cry about it. It doesn't compute at all.

I think people should lay off now but I don't think the backlash was undeserved. Rant over.

The 'political correctness' movement started out probably with the very best of intentions, making people aware of words and phrases which some minority groups might have found offensive.
However it's been totally corrupted by the 'liberal left' and what it has done is to close down freedom of speech which is a fundamental right of everyone in this country.
I only know of what Fury said at the start of this year and reported in the national press. In the first instance he was unwise to make the statements he did, and secondly, he should have known some people would have been offended BUT I defend his right to say what he wants provided it remains within the law ie he didn't INTEND to be offensive. Sadly we live in a country in which 110,000 vegans can force the Treasury to alter the manufacture of the new £5 notes because of their animal fat content when 60 million of us couldn't care less.
I wasn't aware of the Saunders incidents, and if they're true he's certainly dropped in my estimation, but regardless , I still wish the big man a full recovery.

Political correctness has not allowed the "liberal left" to "close down" freedom of speech. Perhaps you could tell me how? There's plenty of right wing race baiting progopaganda in the national press and people can still say what they like, just as people can disagree with it.

Also, I think a lot of the "outcry" (if you can call it that, probably more just "a news story" sandwiched inbetween many other more important news stories) about the £5 note comes from Hindus objecting to the beef in them, not just vegans. So they care about it? It's their freedom of speech to voice that. You just said you couldn't care less so shut up.

Saunders seems like a grade A wanker. It's saying something when people might actually want to see Eubank jnr beat him in a rematch...

Fury? He's a bit touched perhaps but I think deep down, he's a decent fella.

How is freedom of speech being closed down? I genuinely can't think of a situation where it has genuinely been stopped.

Fury will of course be fined for repeatedly going on about gay people in a negative way, but he's obviously able to carry on saying it. Christ, you can have a political party run, as the NF do, with an open policy of chucking every non-white person out of the country. 'Freedom of speech' hasn't stopped them, despite them being demonstrably racist.

And Tyson said making homosexuality legal in the bible days would have been looked upon as no different to making paedophilia legal now would be. That was him comparing!
