I think you need a lot more evidence than weight gain to come to that conclusion.
Throughout boxing history, fighters have gained weight as they got older. It is the rule, not the exception. Most have not fully grown when they start their careers. Most guys have little trouble fighting in a multiple weight classes.
He went up 33 pounds, but that was in a period of about 10 years. There have been countless guys throughout history who have done that.

He was on steroids period alp. Take it from a guy who has taken them on and off 20 years. 1990 he was a 140 ilb guy obviously the accident ...but his gain looked a lot more than 14 lbs and that's how steroid gain as opposed to regular gain is.u look much bigger pumped shapely with steroid gain. His hand and foot speed did not lose at all with the gain.take nothing away pax was a multi talented boxer fighterAmbling Alp II wrote:I think you need a lot more evidence than weight gain to come to that conclusion.

There was a recent controversy where violinists auditioning for a major philharmonic were using beta-blockers to reduce stress and enhance performance; rejected contestants complained. The philharmonic didn't know how to approach the problem. Was it wrong? - This problem has no boundaries and isn't going away anytime soon.

I'd say he was on them. I'm sure it was in the press when he came back, huge muscles and veins popping out. 33lbs is a huge amount of muscle to put on in any time frame.

I guess we need more proof. Look at some of the guys he fought. Camacho started his career at about 127 and got as high as 161. That's 34 pounds. Duran started at 119 and got as high as 176. You can listed literally hundreds of guys who put on 33 pounds during their career.
True, he did go from 140 to middleweight in about three years. However, I his weight was going up and down. He weighed 148 in a fight in 1988. It's not that strange for him to be at 154 in 1991 and 158 in 1992.

For what it is worth I would argue that both Camacho and Duran looked more like middle-aged men when they were carrying those weights; Paz looked 'cut' like a younger man would.

That's certainly true Vinny looked the more lets just say healthier and the more natural Middleweight if we compare Camacho and Duran with him.

Re: was vinny pazienza on steroids
One thing I can say from experience is that when you stop focusing on dieting and dropping weight like all fighters do for a while you instantly begin to fill out a little. I'm sure he did weights and other things to gain weight but you do fill out as you get older and with a fighter IMO it's more noticeable because the body wants to put weight on after being starved for so long.
Re: was vinny pazienza on steroids
Camacho looked natural age accumulated fat.he was v smooth plus his gain took far longer the course of a 16 year period up to 1996 when he fought Duran at 160Ambling Alp II wrote:I guess we need more proof. With paz lets stress it was SEVEN MONTHS from 1990 to 1991and he only gained 14 lbs LW to LM but it looked like much more and it was hard fairly bulky pumped up muscle in key areas like the lats and shoulders and legs...the pump was no doubt blood and water from a high rbc count.probably deca/nandrolone or dianabol I would guess from the look it gave him

My Two Cents on the World
There was a commercial back in the early eighties with Cher hawking some exercise gym/video/program – she is stretched out across the TV screen looking beautiful and healthy; she says with sarcasm “if great bodies came in a bottle, everyone would have one.”
Maybe the upshot here is not to go into the exercise business; maybe exercise is done; if we can recreate the effects of exercise chemically, why not?
I am not talking about the crap that is out there now, that crap will kill you, (or at least wreak havoc on your mind and balls); I mean in a generation or two, ‘going to the gym’ will be a social event with a retro theme, where people meet each other while pretending to exercise, all walking about with perfect bodies anyway.
OK, three generations, but no later.
To say it more seriously: we talk as if we are going to prohibit where this is going; I think, like every other convenience science has offered us, we are going to embrace it; I have no clue how it will work out, but in the end, professional sports will have to embrace PEDs, if only to properly regulate them; prohibition of PEDs won't last.

Re: was vinny pazienza on steroids
By coincidence on tv tonite rerun paz v dele Oct 1991.....paz was noticeably faster of hand and foot than he had been at lightweight!!!!the commentators mentioned it .
His stamina was incredible for all his bulk he danced and slipped at high intensity for every round
This...paz I believe had all the tools and skill to finish what Amir khan,Matthew Hatton started with canelo
Pax was a big LM fast hands and feet, good boxer in this incarnation, great workdays and I thi k he had the chin and smarts to survive a bomb or two
