George Groves vs Fedor Chudinov - WBA Super Super-Middleweight Championship - Confirmed

Post by EddieHearnsUncle »

Just announced on Twitter this morning, not entirely sure what date it is yet. Who wins? I want to say Groves by UD but Chudinov is a dangerous puncher...

Its possibly an intrim proper title that will be similar to the intrim super super title or could well be a regular super title but could be made into a regular super super title and then the winner could well be a super intrim super super regular siver champion.

And people mock the WBU :OhYes:

Led to believe it's for the Super vacated by Sturm.

Zeuge is the regular champ.

Chudinov is a tough fella and has a gas tank.
I think Groves is the bigger man dimensions wise.
Could be a jab fest from Groves to simply win 7 of the 12 rounds for a close decision win...

If in England I would go with a close, controversial win for Groves if he can avoid late kds / ko. I hope this fight comes to fruition. It is a really excellent match.

Good fight, I look forward to it. I think Groves should have enough to win this.

Groves should win this.

But if he doesn't, I think he should pack it in

I rate Chudinov but looks tailer made for Groves.

Chudinov best asset is his strength and cardio. If Groves keeps his jab and workrate up his quality of punches should be enough to win on points.

Around the 116-112 mark. Will be in the U.K..

I must confess I've never watched Chudinov. He's quite short for a SMW, isn't he? Are the Sturm fights a good place to start? I don't have much time to research fighter's form these days.

Much more of a Degale fan and rooted against Groves in both Froch fights but it would be nice for George to win and set up a lovely unification in the UK that would be brilliant for us fans, should Degale also beat the ripper.

Wouldn't it be fornicating terrible if Degale loses to Jack and Groves wins this? The crowing from Groves would be unbearable.

Yeah he did - Zeuge beat him last month.

The 2 belt scenario from the WBA is a joke.

Maybe he'll have a rematch with Smith. Winner gets one final shot?

This is a bullshit fight.

It should be Zuege v chudinov so there is only one WBA champion.

As I say on regular basis the WBA are pure scum.

I fancy Groves for this fight

But there is a world title involved, so Chudinov by close UD

He's only fought Froch and Jack for titles, and both of them were/are top fighters (Froch was divisional #1, Jack is at least top #3 now).

He should handily beat Chudinov.

I was partly being sarcastic. But I do wonder if there is a softness to Groves where he might always be a nearly man.

He did spectacularly well in that first Froch fight, but when Froch came in tip top in the second fight he wiped him out.

As for Jack I don't think he's anything special and looks the type of fighter I'd back Groves to beat but he just looked flat against him and didn't quite do enough.

Not sure if it's psychological or what but you wonder if there is something missing on the big fight night for Groves

I hope I'm wrong, as he looks world class when you see him operate at the level below, he looks like he can make the step up.

Hopefully he does, because Chudinov doesn't look as if he should beat Groves, I just have my doubts

the 'better' chudinov? this is a good fight. I wouldn't be too confident picking Groves.

Groves will win this fight but I cannot see him holding the title for very long. Victory will surely set up the DeGale rematch.

You think Degale beats him?

I'm not so sure.
I suspect (although it is only a suspicion) there may be a mental weakness in GG when the pressure is on at the top level.
A win against Chudinov will likely do one of 2 things. Demonstrate I was wrong about that or give Grove the mental boost required to push on....A yes I can moment, if you will.

Groves has gotten the better of Degale previously at amateur and professional boxing.
Granted Degale has likely improved since then with Groves looking to have stood still but Groves know how to win against James, he will have confidence that he could again and if he enters that bout as a world title holder, I think the confidence he will enter that fight with would make this a very close fight to call
