FAKE Floydstyle retirement to duck a fight he does not want.
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
If Ward tries that charade he is back to being SOGgy. If he really retires more power to him. Smart move. Support your family doing something that won't leave you unable to enjoy your grandchildren.

Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
You can always rely on Kathy for a unbiased take on the situation.
Here's the thing..... Punch stats reveal that Ward was the more accurate puncher in 11 of the 12 rounds, which also translates to him being the better defensive boxer in all but the round he was knocked down in. Ward won the fight fare and square.

Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
He may well have been more accurate. Surely if he landed say, 35/45 shots per round, and kovalev landed 45/70 per round(as rough numbers, no idea the real stats) than kovalev landed more, and has a fair case to be the winner?keithmoonhangover wrote:You can always rely on Kathy for a unbiased take on the situation.![]()

Boxing isn't just landing punches, it's an art, it's about hitting without being hit. When scoring a round, judges must score point for defence, which they did and scored the fight correctly for Andre Ward.bigred83 wrote:He may well have been more accurate. Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
I am convinced that there are a whole lot of people who stopped watching Ward v Krusher after round 2.
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
I went back and watched that 12th round. No idea how anyone could possibly score that for Kovalev. The 10th round scoring was clearly an issue but there were people complaining about that last round, unjustifiable. Ward should still be fighting him again, he could prove that was no fluke. And they know each other now. Should be less surprises.
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
The 12th wasn't Kovalev's ?
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
It was a close fight and whoever was unfortunate enough to come out as the loser would, imo, deserve a rematch. Hope we get to see it again.
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
What are the chances of Kovalev v Ward 2 in Russia and the 3rd fight in Las Vegas.

Professional boxing is about hurting your opponent. The same exact judges would have an opposite opinion if a local offensive boxer would perform against a guest defensive one like Kovalev did against Ward. They would score 117-110 or 116-111 for Kovalez.keithmoonhangover wrote:Boxing isn't just landing punches, it's an art, it's about hitting without being hit. - 75-85% boxing experts had it for Kovalev; not Duva's fault, is it?
- rd 2: Ward's more accurate with the jabs; Ward wins the rd?
- rd 10: 11 to 9 in landed jabs
10 to 7 in landed power punches
ALL IN KOVALEV's FAVOR
Round still goes to Ward !!

Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
Right now, Ward is between a rock and a hard place; if he rematches Kovalev, he gets a bigger beating and likely possibly stopped.
He can't avoid the rematch and continue in boxing, because nobody goes relinquishing 3 belts to avoid a fighter he allegedly beat.
He can't ask for more money, or modify his share because he agreed to it all before the first fight.
If he relinquishes, that will be a tacit admission of having lost, and he will prove right 80% of boxing experts who saw it that way.
Either way, he's toast.
Isn't life wonderful??

13 total punches landed to Ward's 12.
Kovalev visibly hurt Ward in that rd.

That going back and rescoring is such a bunch of crap -- one only does that to prove that he was right the first time.

Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
Why can’t people learn to step away from this subject matter until the inevitable rematch is announced? The discussion around this topic has been exhausted.
I get it… about 63% of the media (54 from 86 scorecards) believed that Kovalev deserved to gain the nod over Ward. It was a competitive fight, but no robbery.
Sergey will receive an opportunity, as per his immediate rematch clause, to avenge his sole defeat… and if he is genuinely a better fighter than Andre, then he’ll win that bout.
I think four weeks of constantly labouring over this fight is more than enough, because people are now repeating themselves, which is incredibly tedious.

No, we will not step away from this subject as long as people like you keep repeating that it wasn't a robbery. Yes, it was a clear deliberate robbery.Enlightened-One wrote:Why can’t people learn to step away from this subject matter until the inevitable rematch is announced? Also, there is nothing inevitable in the rematch.

"How To Brainwash People–Even With Weak Logic"
"Repetition is one of the simplest ways to convince people of something. When we hear things multiple times, we tend to believe it more. It becomes more familiar and more familiar things seem more true."
I think you're trying to brainwash people into your way of thinking, by repeating the same claim over and over again in an effort to wear us all down, in the hope that raw repetition alone will eventually displace the truth.
Re: Kathy Duva: "The whole world texted me on the robbery"
Did anyone REALLY think that Ward would honor that rematch clause? As soon as I heard it, I knew that it would never happen ESPECIALLY if Ward won. The worst part is that not only is there a binding rematch clause but most of the world feels that Ward was undeserving of the win and it was a bad decision. You can't find two bigger reasons for rematches to be made.crow wrote:Right now, Ward is between a rock and a hard place; if he rematches Kovalev, he gets a bigger beating and likely possibly stopped.

But Ward is a punk and I knew that he would put that sketchy victory in his pocket and never repay Kovalev for giving him his shot. So here's how this is going to go. Andre Ward is going to retire and give up the belts to avoid the fight. Kovalev will book another fight or two and then Ward is going to have this huge change of heart and get back in the ring again versus someone else. These two will never fight again. I hope Ward hears it from fans wherever he goes because there's no honor in the way he conducts himself within the sport.
