Artur Beterbiev vs Isidro Ranoni Prieto

Post by handsofstone »

Last allegedly card of the year on Friday, nothing special really but better than nowt,I know Beterbiev has KO'd everyone he's fought but I'm still not sold on him as a boxer, he looks pretty crude for someone with such a decorated amateur career, Prieto's only defeat was on points to Eleider Alvarez,he hasn't got any notable wins apart from Rueben Acosta who fought Stieglitz for the world title and Callum Smith beat a few years go,Prieto looks a banger though,22ko in 26 wins

Beterbiev surely too good for Prieto though,if he can KO him then that's impressive considering Alvarez couldnt

Probably a routine KO win here for Beterbiev. Wouldn't mind seeing him in with Stevenson early next year.

Beterbiev needs to breakout to the big time next year. It's bad for him that Kovalev got robbed v Ward.

There seems to be some serious needle between him and Kovalev.

I've called it for 2017 that Chickenson gets banged out could be Beterbiev that does it.

Can't see anything other than a beterbiev KO.

Not really sold on the hype yet. He needs a step up soon.

Still nothing learned about how Beterbiev copes in a boxing match but his power and ability to get his shots off can't be denied, that was superb, sheer destruction, he's went back since Cloud and Campillo but that should give his backers confidence to step up the opposition again

He's stood out as a huge hitter dating back to the amateurs. If he can land, the opponent is in big trouble.

What I liked about him last night he hurt him bad and didn't rush in windmilling like an idiot. He took his time.

Big year for him in 2017

When I saw him I didn't get the fuss, didn't seem to be doing the job in a very efficient manner.

Hoping he will show more when his opponents show more.

Surprising that JoeSmith Jr made way more progress, as I'd heard ofBeterbiev for a while and I'd never heard ofSmith until the day before he smashed Fonfara.

Wondering what the master plan is. Beterbiev seems obsessed with Kovalev but his handlers never talk about him. Really impatient for Smith or Beterbiev to give Stevenson the challenge he desperately needs.

I liked prietos attitude in the first 30 seconds. He was letting beterbiev know that he wasn't intimidated and was here to fight. He was charging forward throwing big shots and Beterbiev was on the back foot. Beterbiev however looked extremely calm and composed and we saw why - he was walking prieto into a hard counter, which he threw on the backfoot and which essentially ended the fight after 30 seconds.

It didn't last a round but looking at the swelling on prietos face you'd think he's done the 12 round distance.

Beterbiev looks like a very big puncher and could be extremely skilled. He showed great poise and boxing ability on the backfoot and showed great lateral movement. Fine killer instinct. Looks the real deal to me

He can be a bit unorthodox coming forward too, throwing kind of looping shots. His jab looks alright and hes got quick feet. Whether he can match the likes of Kovalev or ward or Stevenson on the outside is the question. And whether he has the chin to compete, as he looks like he's draining himself. He looks like a better combination puncher than Kovalev when he's putting his shots together. He's accurate as hell, look at the final combination last night. Gives the impression of a bear mauling his prey.

Kovalev, Ward, beterbiev and Stevenson - very intriguing mix at the top of 175.

I didn't mention cleverly. He'd do well to avoid beterbiev. He's far too static. If he thought Kovalev gave him a hiding, he'll be wondering what hit him when beterbiev gets going.

I've said this ever since Clev came back down. He didn't display it last night but beterbievs uppercut in the inside is sickening. His best punch and he would land it whenever he wants to against clev.

I quite like Clev and I would NOT want to see that fight.

Very impressive, and VERY heavy handed. In short, a beast. His opponent came to fight too. Think I saw Artur get knocked over once, so maybe that chin might be an achilles heal...

Big year coming for Beterbiev - he'll surely be a champion.

If Chilemba has anything left, might be a decent early year fight, then on to a title.

Should be involved in some great fights.

Another point, the card last night was atrocious!

On the inside this guy is an absolute monster, and probably the most dangerous fighter at 175. He's very physically strong and packs KO power into an array of short hooks and uppercuts. Would Ward be able to push him around and find safety in proximity like he's done against many of his opponents who lacked Beterbiev's inside artillery? What would longer range fighters like Kovalev and Stevenson do if he gets up close? Clev was mentioned, and I think his face first style would lead to disaster against Beterbiev.

On the not so positive side, he can be quite wild when he's trying to close distance, telegraphing shots, neglecting a jab, and largely just rushing in openly. The long, powerful straight punches of Adonis and Kovalev would be serious dangers for him, and he already got dropped by a Jeff Page cross as he was storming in with his guard down; he didn't seem hurt and got a stoppage the next round, but Jeff Page isn't exactly a world class puncher.
