Billy Joe Saunders Splits With Jimmy Tibbs
Billy Joe Saunders Splits With Jimmy Tibbs
Billy Joe Saunders has parted company with his trainer. The WBO middleweight champion had been mentored by Jimmy Tibbs since turning professional after the 2008 Olympics. But after the pair were not working together for Saunders’ last fight earlier this month, when he laboured to a points victory over Artur Akavov to retain his crown at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland, it has now been revealed that the 27-year-old will have to look for a new mentor heading into 2017. Saunders (24-0, 12 KOs) won the world title last December in Manchester, exclusively live on allegedly, outpointing Andy Lee and made his first defence, against Akavov and following a succession of issues throughout the year, with Danny Vaughan, Johnney Roye and Ben Davies in his corner.

Yeah but would he listen to him ? Saunders comes across these days as someone that thinks he knows it allFinn wrote:Who's about for him at the mo? Bob Shannon would get him in shape.

Yeah that would be my concern, if you quit before finishing the set workout with Shannon he kicks you out of the gym. Saunders would be out the door within the day.littlepug wrote:Yeah but would he listen to him ? I've seen some people suggest McGuigan or Booth, both of whom would be very interesting.

Really bad split, Tibbs takes no rubbish and Bill doesn't respect anyone who does. Billy must have been out of order.
Re: Billy Joe Saunders Splits With Jimmy Tibbs
I like Billy but I think we've seen the best of him.

Yeah when he beat Eubank Jr.Taansend wrote:I like Billy but I think we've seen the best of him.
The win over Andy Lee is debatable in my opinion. I had Andy Lee by a point. Not something you'd call a robbery, but certainly not a definitive victory.

Reading between the lines and seeing the pictures of BJS looking like mark bosnich, I'd say tibbs split with BJS .
Total joke year, loads of lies about why he's been inactive. Can't see many trainers wanting to work with him, certainly not booth, mcguigan etc..
I don't think he will hold onto his title, most likely he will slip away from the public consciousness after a few more forgettable performances.
Some guys can't handle defeat and some guys can't handle winning.. Fury and BJS seem to definitely fit the latter, soon BJS at least will have to face the former.

Everything makes sense now.
Obviously BJS should have taken the GGG fight when it was offered. And I'll never ever defend his decision to reject it.
But I slated him hard for turning down Rosado, Stevens or Munroe on the Conelo smith card. All guys he would beat and gain exposure in America.
It's obvious he was well overweight and didn't want to risk losing the belt in the scales taking one of those fights. Also the training issue would have been a problem.
Putting two and two together I reckon Tibbs just thought f*ck this I'm in my 70s I can't be doing with this sh*t.
I remember the IFL interview when he was with the horses in the stable around May June time I think. And he looked massive in the face.

I can't see Adam booth or Shane mcguigan taking him on, Adam likes to keep a,small stable with his focus on Ryan Burnett, and would BJS fit in with groves, haye, frampton and josh Taylor in the cyclone gym?
I think he will find someone who will be a yes man for him, not someone who will stand up to him. I think it is more that jimmy probably got pissed off and split with him.

He"s reached his level.he doesn't have stamina after 8 he lacks world class power .I had him clearly beating lee but losing to a still raw Eubanks.T w_savage wrote:Reading between the lines and seeing the pictures of BJS looking like mark bosnich, I'd say tibbs split with BJS .

Realistically he should cash in now on a ggg payday

Too late to cash in, his stock has dropped considerably. He would be lucky to get a third of the money he would have had he kept his momentum going.Bricks wrote:He"s reached his level.he doesn't have stamina after 8 he lacks world class power .I had him clearly beating lee but losing to a still raw Eubanks.T w_savage wrote:Reading between the lines and seeing the pictures of BJS looking like mark bosnich, I'd say tibbs split with BJS .

He's a good boxer, despite never really being in top condition he beat Lee and eubonkers jr. Remembering eubonkers vastly superior conditioning that's a great result.
He needed to build on his conditioning from the Lee fight, that was the minimum he needed to compete at world level. Unfortunately he threw it all away. Self sabotage, similar to Tyson fury..
Very much the path of Frankie Gavin too

Murata took part in a public work out today and Mr Honda stated they were interested in getting Saunders Vs Murata - nice payday, but that's dependent on Cabelo Vs Chavez, as Saunders is thought to be a target for Canelo...could be that he's going to get to cash out after all one way or another

I'd Be amazed if he didn't end up under Danny Vaughan. He loves the MGM lifestyle so makes sense.

Bob Shannon are you serious ? He couldn't handle someone like Saunders he's limited
Re: Billy Joe Saunders Splits With Jimmy Tibbs
It was more of a comment relating to Billy's poor fitness rather than a realistic suggestion. I think it's going to be hard to get billy a trainer, can't see guys like booth and mcguigan taking him on, if they did the relationship would breakdown very quickly.pimp wrote:Finn wrote:Who's about for him at the mo? The only thing that would work in BJS favour is that GGG wants his belt. He'll fight him for it. although it'd be over super quick.T w_savage wrote:Too late to cash in, his stock has dropped considerably.
