Boxing is like effing Glastonbury

I keep on using this analogy but as a drug addled teenager we used to just jump the fence or buy a ticket whenever we wanted. Glasto was a scruffy, scary hardcore place and everybody there loved it for what it was and lived the lifestyle. Nobody "cool" wanted to go and so it was our thing. Then suddenly it got big and every fornicating prick wants to go, dress up, cover themselves in glitter and "glamp" like a bunch of c*nts. There's no edge to it anymore, it's not "real' like it used to be and crucially you can't get a ticket for the fornicating thing for love nor money: it sells out in about 5 minutes. I don't even WANT to go anymore.

Now boxing has gone the same way. It was a sort of niche thing that I was really into and I enjoyed going to big fights, enjoyed the atmosphere, bit moody sometimes with all the charly and it going off in the crowd, but that was part of the fun. But now, everything I want to go to sells out in seconds flat... It's bollocks. I basically can't go to these things anymore unless I'm prepared to get shafted by the touts. There should be a proper investigation.

Glastonbury got so bad that you have to have your name and photo on your ticket, just to stop the touts getting them. It works in that regard, but you still can't get the tickets. At least if you had to have your names on your tickets for big fights, and show ID, then that would at least go some way to ending all of this.

The only tickets I got for any big fight since fornicating AJ and Hearn took over this shit was for Fury-Wlad 2, and look how that turned out.

I agree that Joshua fights are similar to Glastonbury for the reasons you mention. But boxing in general is still pretty niche and most people don't give a toss about it outside of the really big fights. I've certainly never had problems getting tickets for shows outside of the big Matchroom ones (but they obviously get sent straight to Stubhub anyway).

If he plans on winning a staring contest with AJ instead of a Boxing match the way he fought Fury, he ain't never beating anybody ever again. That's the thing about Boxing, you have to actually Box and throw punches to win at it.

My point is; if he boxes like he did vs Fury then yes he's finished, but given he hasn't boxed since then, it's impossible to say if that performance was due to father time, injury or simply a bad performance/preparation. I suspect he wasn't fully fit.

Fury was not there to be hit. AJ will be. That will make all the difference in terms of punch output.

I understand I could still get tickets for a York Hall show or something, and I still go and watch small Muay Thai shows and stuff, but it was still possible to get tickets for say, Froch and Haye when they were the big draws. But definitely in the past year or so it's become insufferable. I've no interest in the AJ mismatch show, but I did want to see GGG, the Haye Bellew circus and the Klitschko fight. These things are just on my doorstep and I'm a big boxing fan, so obviously I want to go. But I can't. And I despise touts and won't pay them on principle. It's all this being in a queue and refreshing the page crap. It's infuriating. Only to end up with nothing at the end of it, too.

I remember plenty of birds - lovely, high blonde headed Essex birds & their gangster wannabe boyfriends - at Benn fights 25 years ago.

Boxing was a niche thing back in the 80's when we had to put up with A LOT of flak from the ban boxing crowd. There were even tv shows about it & I remember one crap show (maybe mid 90's) where Colin McMillan had to defend himself (verbally) against an attack from an anti boxing doctor/psychologist or something.

I also remember going to Bruno v Bugner at White Hart Lane. Didn't have a ticket (couldn't afford one) but was a cocky 19 year old trying to blag my way in. There were plenty of 'casuals' there that night

Plenty of my football going mates have the same complaint. As far as I am concerned the more coverage the better. I remember not getting results for fights for up to three months - having to wait for The Ring or some other magazine.

We're all more inter-connected now. Some people love it & others don't. It's not just sport. Votes in Brexit & Trump are people saying "I want things back how they were in my nostalgic view (while keeping the benefits that suit me the most now)"
