Franco Udella of Italy became the first champion of the light flyweight class when he won the newly-created WBC World Jr Flyweight Title on April 4, 1975. Jaime "El Cieguito" Rios of Panama became the first WBA World title holder of the division on August 26, 1975.
I really don't know the purpose to create a smaller division below flyweight. Now, it's more ridiculous. Below Jr flyweight, in 1987, a smaller weight class was created: Strawweight or what is called now minimumweight.
Anyway, now boxing has 17 weight classes and four world champions per division. That is a total of 68 world title holders! Ridiculous! It turned lost of traditional boxing purists away from the game. From 8 world champions to 68.....Interesting and ludicrous.
But, every weight class in history got their best fighters ever, and the Jr flyweights ain't no different. Some of them were fantastic champions that made or will make someday the hall of fame: Yoko Gushiken, Hilario Zapata, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, Jung Koo Chang, Michael Carbajal and Myung Woo Yuh to name a few. It's a division like any division below bantamweight predicated on speed and agility. There's not too many bangers. Mostly, the best fighters in these type of weight classes are dominated by boxers from The Far East countries like Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Thailand. Most of the Latin American fighters that excelled in this class were mostly from Mexico. Superstar of the 1990s, Michael Carbajal, gave attention to the division for American TV audiences.
It wasn't hard to put a list of the best 25 ever from this weight class. But, it was very tiresome, and sometimes, very boring in finding spots for some boxers due to lack of great and talented boxers. These are the 25 greatest boxers from this 108lbs division:
1. Jung Koo Chang
2. Michael Carbajal
3. Myung Woo Yuh
4. Hilario Zapata
5. Yoko Gushiken
6. Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez
7. Luis "Lumumba" Estaba
8. Saman Sorjaturong
9. Jorge "El Travieso" Arce
10. Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez
11. Pichit Chor Siriwat
12. Melchor Cob Castro
13. Ulises Solis
14. Adrian Hernandez
15. Netroi Sor Vorasing
16. Hiroki Ioka
17. Katzuo Ioka
18. Giovani Segura
19. Ivan Calderon
20. Gilberto Keb Baas
21. Nelson Dieppa
22. Yo Sam Choi
23. Pedro Flores
24. Juan Guzman
25. Jaime "El Cieguito" Rios
Honorary mention: Donnie Nietes, Ryoichi Taguchi, Ricardo "Finito" Lopez, Rosendo Alvarez, and Akira Yaegashi.....Any comments?

Re: Top 25 All-Time Jr. Flyweights
Agree, it is a weight class that should not exist. These guys could easily have fought in the flyweight division. The flyweight division would have more depth if the Jr. Flyweight and Minimumweight divisions did not exist.
The WBS organizations do this so that they have more titles. They get a sanctioning fee in their title fights.
