Manny Pacquiao's next bout likely to be on free TV in US, HBO to get first option
Bob Arum is set to drop United States pay-per-view costs for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight should the Filipino Senator perform outside his usual territory, as planned.
acquiao is considering welterweight options for his next bout, set to go down in April, with Australian, Middle Eastern and English venues on the table. Due to the decision for Pacquiao to travel to pastures new, Arum wouldn’t expect fans in the US to fork out extra money to watch the ‘Pacman’ in action.
“I’m not dealing with an ordinary fighter here who has to squeeze every buck out,” Arum told RingTV.com.
“One thing I’m looking forward to — the possibility of putting the fight on free television in the United States. We’re looking at a future president of the Philippines and if he fights outside the United States and people in the United States and around the world are able to watch his fight without paying any additional money — I think it’s a plus. It puts him on a really different level.”
On which network Pacquiao could feature on, having previously severed ties with HBO for his latest win over Jessie Vargas, Arum had no qualms going back if an agreement could be reached.
“If we make that arrangement, then we go to HBO and give them the first opportunity to show the fight without an additional charge to their subscribers. Or we go to one of the networks (such as CBS, NBC) or ESPN,” said Arum.

HBO and espn are not free tv.

That's so Pacquiao doesn't have to fight a PPV worthy opponent, such as: Crawford, Spence, Brook, or Thurman... who would blast the little tyke out.

Almost all channels are not free. Sky Sports channels are not free, you have to pay for them in the UK, and then on top of that, you have Eddie Hearn charging an extra £16.50 for a fight.

You don't think after 22 years and world titles in more divisions than most people can count Pacquiao has earned the right to choose his next opponent?Jip wrote:arum is such a moron...all that asia fight and free tv crap...all these c level opponents....

I live in Texas. I don't have an antenna on my TV, haven't for decades. If I unhook my cable I can't watch any channels. Id have to go by some equipment. 10-15 years ago you could still get those channels free. Not anymore.Perseus wrote:Where?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Neither are CBS or NBC.Perseus wrote:HBO and espn are not free tv.

Antennas are dirt cheap and are a once in a lifetime purchase.
No monthly bill = free to air period.
