Amir Khan says Kell Brook has walked away from a fight, it’s not happening

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Amir Khan has confirmed a fight with Kell Brook is now off the table following an interview on British morning television on Monday.

“Well basically, my team sat down with Kell Brook and his manager. We tried to make the fight and Kell Brook said he doesn’t want the fight so it’s not happening,” Khan told ITV’s This Morning show.

“It’s something I didn’t want to tweet, but you guys asked me so I want to tell you the truth. I want the fight and Kell Brook has just walked away from it, he doesn’t want it."

Asked why he would do that by host Philip Schofield, Khan replied: “Maybe he has other options or maybe he just doesn’t want that big fight. I think he’s just fooling the British public.

“I was getting the blame for not taking the fight, and now when I’ve said, ‘yes, I’ll take the fight’ – Kell Brook has stepped back and made excuses. He’s making me look the bad one.

“I want to tell you guys that I want the fight, but the answer from Kell Brook and his team was, ‘no’.”

But both fighters are now set to seek alternative opponents.

Khan's team lay the blame at the door of Brook's stepfather Terry who advises the IBF world champion.

They say he insisted on a 50/50 purse split despite the fact that Brook's pay cheque was close to being agreed.

He was to be paid more than he received to face middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last year.

Khan's advisor Asif Vali told Mirror Sport: "Terry stood up, shook my hand, said, 'We are not doing business', and walked out."

Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn, however, claims Khan wanted a 70/30 purse split.
Eddie I'm the A side and you and kell know he will make more then he did against GGG. Don't you agree. https://t.co/7TbU05c7bN

Hearn has now outlined Khan's terms of a 70-30 split in his favour mean the fight won't happen anytime soon, which Khan reacted to almost immediately.
And on 50-50 you will make more than you did v Canelo. https://t.co/BUWqsLwYCc

Brook was quick to respond to Khan’s taunts as he replied to the tweet Khan had sent to Hearn.
Who da f@ck is that guy! https://t.co/sfMHQJPQmw

Khan was also quick on the keyboard as he told Brook he could still accept his offer if he still wanted to fight.
But Brook had an equally stellar reply.
@SpecialKBrook I'm this guy below! Now get the Fu@k in the que. fight your mandatory for $1m
My offers to to good. Take it or leave it! pic.twitter.com/yeJklPWw42

Kell Brook is trying to negotiate from a position of weakness.

If he won't accept Khan's terms, he has to fight the anonymous but dangerous Errol Spence Jr. if he wants to continue his career campaigning as a 147lb-er holding a title belt. There's a good chance he loses that bout and will be compensated with only small fight purse for taking another loss on his resume. A huge risk but small return!

Meanwhile, the 154lb weight division is full of talent and he'd be competing against naturally bigger guys, such as the Charlos, Andrade and Lara. I think Brook struggles against those guys and his paydays won't be great.

For Khan, he could probably command huge paydays competing against the likes of Pacquiao, Cotto, Garcia or any one of the PBC guys. The same set of fighters wouldn't face Brook because he's not well known in the US.

In my mind, 70-30 isn't a reasonable split, but Brook doesn't deserve 50% either, which is what Hearn is offering.

Eddie Hearn has been interviewed by iFL TV today and he admitted the following:

• Amir Khan’s team wanted the lion’s share 70-30 split
• Eddie Hearn demanded a 50-50 split
• Eddie Hearn doesn’t believe that his fighter should agree to compromise, by taking the smaller share of a 60-40 split
• Fight negotiations have ended, with Hearn still hopeful that a deal could be made for a fight scheduled to take place in October, with both men engaging in an interim bout
• Hearn cannot refute Khan’s claim about Brook’s 30% share would result in a bigger payday for Kell than what he received to face GGG
• Hearn admitted that the Macron Stadium in Bolton was being considered as a possible venue for the Brook-Khan fight
• Hearn conceded that Brook is not as well-known globally as Khan
• Eddie admitted that even though Kell would be badly depleted if he decided to return to the welterweight division again, Brook would be willing to “cut his own leg off” to make 147lbs if it meant getting the Khan fight.

When you review Eddie’s comments, it’s clear that he cannot articulate a compelling argument that justifies his fighter receiving an equal share of the fight purse.

Kell Brook has already admitted that he’s lacking in motivation to take the Errol Spence Jr. bout because it won’t be a big money fight. And apart from Amir Khan, what alternatives does ‘The Special One’ have in order to receive a big payday?

Thoughts? :-?

Both are over-rated Divas that are not deserving of a lot of attention. Both were stopped, got their asses handed to them, yet think those fights increased their star power?

How about offer both 25%, and the winner gets the rest. See how confident they are. Khan says he will kick Brook's ass. If he does he will get the big split he wants. Same goes for Brook. I hope Khan stands firm on his demand though, so Brook is forced to fight Spence, or duck and be shamed.

Khan is full of crap and has lost a lot of fights... and he looked crappy in fights that he won... Brook lost only to GGG and finished on his feet.

Khan got knocked stiff and he knows Brook will knock him stiff again -- so he's pricing himself out of the fight as he usually does when faced with a tough opponent... Khan was offered more to fight Brook than he was offered to fight Canelo -- and that is a fact... He's been running from Brook for years.

On the money. :OhYes:

I'm a bit bored of Brook/Khan & their on/off fight that has never actually been on.

Brook just needs to to decide whether he wants to be IBF welterweight champion anymore & Amir Khan needs to stop talking & do some actual fighting.

Khan has been in semi retirement for about 5 years now & he needs to put up or quit all together.
