Petrov's a good little fighter I like him but its still a bit underwhelming after Flanagan's recent opposition

Agreed. Other than a unification or Crolla this is probably as good as is out there, Petrov is on a very good run. Not sure it's a big ticket seller although Williams v Smith is a belter so might help with that

Good match up. Hopefully Petrov brings out the best in Flanagan.

Seen Petrov knocking about lists for a bit but not seen him fight.

This would have been ideal for Flanagans last fight instead of the farcical fight vs Orlando Cruz.

But it will be a big fight next.....

Sort of fight he should have had in his last two, top 10 across the board, good fight for him. Hopefully after this he can get a big fight afterwards, whether it's the winner of Linares-Crolla 2, Easter, the Zlaticanin-Garcia winner or Verdejo.

cant see how this is going to fill even half the M.E.N Arena. 21,000 is a hell of a lot of tickets to sell.
The Velodrome holds 3,500. Might have been wiser to start small and build into the bigger venue if only to avoid the tv audience seeing a half empty arena...

Petrov is lower top 10 and on a career best run. I dont really think Flanagan has proved to be anything special, and this is a solid opponent for him.

In fact, in my opinion it's very arguably his best opponent. I'd certainly take Petrov over shakey Derry, Zepada is relatively unproven, Ormond is a domestic level fighter, Fana was old and small, etc. Magdaleno may well be the best guy Flanagan has faced, but I think he's been somewhat overrated.

I also think Petrov is better than Barraso, who has only defeated what I believe was a husk of Kevin Mitchell; it's a joke that Boxing News still ranks Barraso at #4 in the world, while having Zlat at#5, Barthlemy at #6, Shafikov at #10, and Petrov unranked.

They'll sell only the lower tier initially and they can open up the upper tier if it's needed. I'm pretty sure they'll sell more than 3,500 for this card even with FW's seeming inability to market fights properly.

The first Crolla - Linares was only the bottom tier (maybe a few rows in the upper tier), and that was still a great atmosphere.

Also means the cheaper seats have some great views.

Khan-Kotelnik was only lower tier, they exchanged your £50 ticket for a £200 one on the door.
I don't know why they've took Williams away from Wales. This would sell out the arena in Cardiff. I hope he isn't overestimating BT. It's a much bigger platform, but Sky's strength comes from Sky sports news. Most lads I know put it on whenever they're in. It's that the builds the fights.

Lol Barthélemy would absolutely school Crolla.

Liam Smith wouldn't travel to Wales & Smith doesn't really sell in Liverpool, hence the reason for the fight on this bill. This card has every chance of doing well, there's a hell of a lot more fights to be added with the potential of Hughie Fury vs. Joseph Parker.

Hughie doesn't sell any tickets here and Parker is unknown. I just don't see how Parker can finally land a world title and immediately end up, despite all the sponsorship deals and business he does in NZ, deciding to defend at first time of asking halfway round the world on a Terry Flanagan card against a guy who does as little business as Hughie.

Warren would have to be paying him a fortune surely.

Is Parker unknown? Remember, he's had all the talk of boxing Joshua and his fight with Ruiz was on Sky Sports, an ideal platform.

Warren probably is paying him top money but in all honesty, like I care? I don't see 1p of the purse so if the fight is on over here it's great news for boxing fans.

Basically my thinking is that neither are a big draw here but Parker is a big draw in New Zealand. An away day v Hughie for him represents a massive risk for potentially little reward. Hughie wasn't even high up on Tyson cards. He's absolutely nowhere near arena-headlining level yet.

Petrov is as solid and reliable as they come.

If he turns in another lacklustre performance he loses his title.

I agree that Petrov will be turbos best win but it's a good fight but not one to get the juices flowing.

Whatever it costs, I imagine Fwank is looking at the prospect of buying himself a heavyweight champion, asap. Personally I do not agree with the match up because Hughie isn't really and there's no need to throw him in, its not like he's in his late thirties, but Fwank has the opportunity to get a piece of the heavyweight title and I imagine that is the attraction. Has anyone said Tyson will appear on the u/c too or have I dreamt it ? I'm sure they'd pull out all the stops to get both Fury's on the card.

Also if Petrov was fighting Crolla sky sports news would of already turned Petrov to the lovechild of a orgy of Rasputin, Ivan Drago and Putin saying he's the most dangerous thing to come out of the eastern block since a strong strain of herpes from Georgian working girls.
Hearn would of already shifted 5000 tickets to Russian ticket tout site Stubov Hubov and Petrov would of tried to stab Johnny Nelson with polonium at the Gloves are Off special.

SKY sell Matchroom fights and fighters expertly to the general public.

Promoters are there to promote. If that means overselling a fighter so be it; their job, as in what their job literally is all about, is maximising the public awareness of fighters, selling tickets and making money. Terry Flanagan has been a world champion for two years by the time this fight is over and the public at large haven't got a clue who he is.
