Eurosport ending.

Post by Mimmy »

From the 1st February it seems Sky Tv will end its broadcast of eurosport. Ive not watched a lot of eurosport in recent times so dont know what the boxing is like on the channel these days but if there is any boxing on Eurosport well it looks like thats it if you use Sky TV.

Sky Sports have been making cutbacks in a number of areas ever since agreeing to pay about £8 billion a game for Premier League matches.

It's still going to be on Virgin, if that helps.

I love Eurosport - it is has that equally soothing quality like the end of transmissions on BBC Radio 4 'Sailing By...' I don't know if that's just me, but yeah.

On the old satellite dish boxes, you could knock off Steve Holdsworths commentary off during the live broadcast of boxing  I liked Steve Holdsworth but still...

I remember years ago, watching some boxing on Eurosport. Must've been in early January, because the commentator spent a whole round thanking his all mates for the Christmas cards they sent him. I don't think he even acknoweldged any of the in-ring action, just literally thanking everybody he'd had a card off and explaining what some of his favourite cards were. I think that was Steve Holdsworth. Probably was.

Also, my favourite ever line of commentary came from a Eurosport boxing show. There was some women's fight on the undercard. After their first fight, they were hyping up that the women were fighting next. And the commentator goes; "Coming up after the break, we're switching genders." Sounded like they were having a sex change during the commercials.

Im not sure if I liked Steve Holdworth commentary he seemed to read his info from a script and didnt have much knowledge of the sport not like the Harry Carpenters or Jimmy Hill of football.

I never saw any of Holdsworth's fights not sure if any were televised either.

I must be in the minority here but I liked holdsworth and a few years ago he would even answer emails sent during the show. On a side note their tour de France coverage was outstanding and it will be a big loss losing this channel

It's part of the package 1 step up from the basic Sky tv (don't need sports package for it).

I got it for their tennis (grand slam) coverage which was IMO excellent. Oh well, I'll be cancelling that next week then!

Still part of the overall subscription cost though, which will obviously not be reduced. Fvck Sky!

Part of the overall cost if you have the family bundle, but yeah, can't see them reducing it

BT to partner with Discovery Networks?

http://www.seenit.co.uk/could-bt-sell-d ... ouseholds/

What this would mean is anyone on the SKY platform who subsribes to BT Sport would get the BT Sports channels, B0xnati0n, AMC, Discovery Channel, Eurosport, TLC and all the other discovery branded channels.

Sound like nothing more than speculation to me.
