Mundine vs Green II results: Danny Green wins controversial decision

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Danny Green gained a measure of revenge today, avenging his 2006 decision loss to Anthony Mundine with a majority decision victory in an ugly, dirty, sloppy fight between two fighters well past their primes.

The judges scored 94-94, 96-94 and 98-90.

The first round saw Green (36-5, 28 KO) coming out aggressive, leading to Mundine (47-8, 27 KO) taking a true cheap shot at him on the break at one point, losing a point but rocking Green to his core, too, and slowing whatever aggression Green was going to try to use. In all reality, it was probably a clever tactic, dirty as it was.

The fight never really developed any rhythm, with loads of grappling and tussling in close, and very little by way of clean, effective punching. In all reality, this should absolutely be the last fight for either man, and neither should seriously consider a rubber match, though you never know — if enough money was made from this fight, it could happen.

The officially announced attendance for the fight was 26,940. Their first fight in 2006 drew over 30,000, with some estimates over 37,000.

There was no true cheap shot ruthless. Is this something you copied and pasted or your own bulls%#t. The ref never called break, Danny was trying to hold and hit him (like he did the whole fight) and Mundine turned him and hit him. Thats what you do when someone's holding you and no break has been called. He was penalised a point and green was given ample time to recover. After that, Green hit him with blows to the back of the head. Mundine did the same thing but the media only noticed Mundine doing it. All in retaliation and all fair to even the odds in this dogfight. Mundine won the fight. Hurt Danny several times, landed the cleaner harder punches coming up 13 kg in weight which was more than anyone could have expected. There was enough clean effective punching by Mundine and the loads of grappling and tussling in close was done by Green. Another terrible decision with one judge giving Green 9 rounds of 10. I will say this, both men put on a show better than I thought possible at that age so you have to respect them for that at least.

Whatever measure of "revenge" Green got will be diminished if he ever rewatches the fight. Mundine the better man on the night and the better boxer full stop.
