Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr could be held at Bramall Lane, says Eddie Hearn

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Hearn told Sky Sports,

"Both countries are still in play. We like the idea of staging it in the UK, but also Kell quite likes the idea of fighting in America as well. He beat Shawn Porter there, so if the money is right, he doesn't have an issue with going to the States, but most likely Sheffield."

"We're talking to Bramall Lane about it as well, end of May, 20th or the 27th. We have talked about a fight for a while there and I think this one makes sense."

"If we went to America, it would only be New York, or Vegas."

Hearn could push the fight date back a little further to June 4, with talks ongoing between both parties, and is hoping to reach an agreement before the fight goes to purse bids next week.

"Purse bids are next Tuesday, so really we have to get a deal done by then, otherwise it will be purse bids."

Bramall Lane holds 32,702

They not gonna use the whole stadium, it will be like when they used Boleyn Ground or Goodison Park, just a corner of the pitch. So it will be like less than 20,000. might as well use o2 Arena.

Hearn's deluded.

Only the very biggest fights should be held in football stadia. Brook has only a moderate fan base and no particular bond with Sheff U fans. No casual fans have the remotest idea who Errol Spence Jr is.

Just like how Bellew, always talking about his career defining win at Goodison. So annoying.

Brook never mentions football Anyway. Sheffield fans probably know Khan more than Brook.

May or June? That's ridiculous, by that point he would have fought twice in two years. I know that's the only realistic time anyway considering they'll need a good few months to promote the fight, let Brook lose the weight and work around the rest of the Sky schedule etc..

They should have had this signed and sealed before the new year IMO

Bellew's a knob but in fairness to him he's a proper Evertonian and has a real bond with the fans hence he got a decent turnout. Also, Bellew's knobbishness helps to sell tickets, Brook doesn't have the same charisma and won't attract the casuals who only know him from being beaten up by GGG.

That's what im saying. Bellew has got a good following, he's close to Everton's chairman too..

Brook should stick to the Motorpoint arena.

One of the Gavin or Dan fights were ppv. Even the Bizier fight was close to being ppv. But they backed out.

Gavin was but was sold as PPV on the basis that Mitchell Linares and Selby Gradovic were both competitive world title fights on the undercard, plus Joshua Johnson who was, by the stage, getting to the point of being able to headline on his own.

I guess that's 1 thing Hearn does well for ppv. A good undercard.

Fair enough but he doesn't seem to have the same bond with the fans that Bellew has with Evertonians and Hatton did with City fans. Hatton was a season ticket holder at Maine Road well into his pro career and he was often in and around the club, being presented to the crowd at half time etc. I could be wrong but I don't sense the same connection between Kell and Blades fans.

And even assuming every Sheff U fan worships Kell, their average crowd is way below City and Everton so the pool from which to draw the casuals in is smaller.

Like I said in the Smith/Dirrell thread, just do it in an arena.

Kell has done all the "half-time on the pitch routine" for many years, always in the local press about his support for the club, wears the club colours when he boxes etc

Given his size, i'm sure he add to the visual that the venue is sold out

Herol Graham headlined a card on the pitch at Bramall Lane in the early 80s. I think the ring was down towards the away end- which has a double decker stand and is steeply banked upstairs- making it ideal for watching a fight from.

Kell has drawn decent crowds at the arena for some pretty ropey fights and could draw a healthy crowd at the Lane in a competitive fight with an acceptable undercard.

There are advantages to using Bramall Lane over the arena. It has extensive dining and hospitality areas that can be sold at a premium. Fast Eddie and people on the board at Sheffield United discussed the possibility years ago and were both keen.

From memory, the ring was in the middle of the South Stand :TU:

I doubt Galahad would sell 60 tickets.

There was hardly anyone there against Bizier and tickets were going for £5 on the night. They could have fitted into Ponds Forge.

61 if his brother gets parole.
