Broner-Granados Now at 147 Pounds, Not Original Weight of 142

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Adrien Broner said during a conference call Thursday that he won’t have any difficulty making weight for his fight against Adrian Granados.

Later on the call, Granados gave some insight as to why Broner isn’t worried about making weight, which he didn’t do for his last fight against Ashley Theophane.

Granados revealed that the fight will be contested at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, not at a catch weight slightly above the junior welterweight limit of 140. Their February 18 fight in Cincinnati initially was supposed to be contested at a maximum weight of 142 pounds, but Broner demanded an increase, after the fight was made, to a limit of 147.

The weight was changed, according to Granados, because Broner got sick during training camp and would’ve had too much trouble making 142 pounds.

“Yeah, it actually is at 147,” Granados said. “It was 142, but however it’s 147 now. That’s the way it is.”

Granados added that he wasn’t left much of a choice when the weight switch was proposed to him by Broner’s representatives.

“It was kind of a take-it-or-leave-it offer, so I’m obviously not gonna pass up on this opportunity and I accepted it.”

Broner learned a few things from his big brother Floyd by playing the weight game. But I wonder if this is going to hurt or help Broner in this one. Broner's brief stint around 147 was NOT a success. He's a small dude. He's beefy. But he's only 5'6". Granados is 5'9" and history does show that weight increase helps the lanky fighter more than the stubby ones. To that end, Granados has fought well at 147.

I like this kid Granados so i hope that's not playing into my opinion that i think this fight is going to be great. I might put a few coins on Granados after hearing about this weight issue for the fight. Can't wait.

I'm hoping he gets outworked and loses a decision to Granados

I do want Granados to win. But I've seen Broner lose on points and no one has wiped him out yet.

Only seen Granados against Imam and he will bring it.

If Broner is like he was in the Theopan fight there is a chance he will get beat next week

Broner's good enough that I don't figure most people would wipe him out, but there's lots of guys that would beat him because he overestimates his defensive ability and seems to be clueless about whether or not he's winning a round. If he has one good flurry he seems to think he's got a round in the bag and will often lay on the ropes and get outhustled the rest of the round.

He's the new Zab Judah. Slightly less talented than Judah, but with all the same flaws.

Broner is not going to win this fight. He get outworked and will lose it on points much like he against Maidana.
