Anyone catch the robert easter fight last night?

Post by sykessta »

Didn't get to see it I'm pissed at myself. I took vacation from work this week just because I have to use my remaining days by the end of march and he fought last night in Toledo his hometown where i live. I'm such an idiot I forgot all about it and went to a pistons game last night for something to do just to watch them lose.. Anyway did anyone catch it on tv? How'd he do in his first defense I did see that he won.

Have you checked the What You Might Have Missed thread? If not, do so, and follow the crumbs.

My wife and I were at the Huntington for the fights last night.
We stopped at Fleetwood's for a few drinks then walked over to the Huntington when the doors opened and stayed through the Easter fight.
Venue sold out, half the crowd didn't show until the tv fights started but it was a fun crowd.
Warren and Gausha brought some fans with them to Toledo last night. They helped fill up the Huntington.
No fight of the year candidates last night but there were a few decent scraps. Lively crowd in there, the only time it was quiet for a while was when Warren was getting his ass kicked. Easter didn't have a trouble with his opponent last night, Cruz is a tough dude and was certainly game for the fight but he was over-matched.

Easter Jr was dominant, he never really had to get out of 2nd gear which made him slip into auto pilot, the jab was enough to win him the rounds, I gave Cruz the 9th round and although it was too little too late, it did give Easter Jr a bit of a wake up call to turn the screw a little resulting in him scoring knockdowns in the remaining 3 rounds

Zhakiyanov/Warren was a much better fight

Shout out to the fans in attendance as well, they were excellent, the crowd was rocking, I know Perseus mentioned most people turned up for the TV fights but that that happens in the UK too

TBH i know fighters all aspire to fight in Vegas or MSG but the crowds and atmosphere are dire there, when Crawford fights in Omaha or Easter Jr in Toledo last night the atmosphere was up there with the UK crowds, seemed very vocal, id much prefer to see fighters fight in their home town, build up a fan base and let word spread that fight night in their town is the place to be, who knows how big a crowd they can pull eventually

Excellent post.
For Toledo the Huntington Center is the largest indoor venue in the city(just under 9500 capacity) and he filled it up. I would love to be proven wrong but I doubt Easter is going to be able to get any near weight top fighters to come to Toledo. Maybe Cleveland or Detroit which would be fine with me, neither are very far from Toledo.

Ok thanx guys. Dang wish I could have made it. But yea I figure they would give him an easy fight for his homecoming as a world champ. Good to see he performed well and nice to hear the place was filled and alive to see our hometown guy get the w. Hopefully it won't be his last title fight in toledo!
