Deontay Wilder is saying Canelo lost to Lara and GGG would beat him

Post by apollo creed »

"I like GGG in that fight, I just like how he’s calm and he likes to have fun. He understands that this is a dangerous sport but why not have fun doing it? We chose to do this, we chose to take these punches and it’s all about having fun sometimes while being serious. You have to know how to mix the two. When you can mix the two, you become a great fighter," Wilder told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

"I really like Golovkin in that fight and I think Lara beat Canelo already but they didn’t give it to him. They said that Lara ran, but basically what he did was... he did what it took to win the fight. I think he fought a great fight against Canelo that fight and I think Canelo took an ‘L’ that fight. With GGG you have a more aggressive guy who will bang in there with you, he’s not scared to throw any punches. I think Golovkin would be the tougher fighter in there and if I had to choose, I would go with him."
from scene.

Of course that everybody is entitled to their own opinion but Wilder should STFU and stop fighting bums.

I think his comments are very reasonable.

I agree with what Wilder, but think the Canelo vs GGG fight will be a lot closer than most think...IF it happens while GGG is still prime. If 2 years from now, my money would be on Canelo. GGG's style suits him perfectly compared to someone like Lara.

Yup, Canelo is a very good combination puncher with very good counter punching skills.

Im surprised Haymon allowed his puppet to say this - it's very VERY RARE to hear a Haymon fighter praise a great Eastern European fighter - Credit to Wilder for his honesty -

I wonder when Wilder is ever going to fight an active, in shape, professional boxer.

I think GGG would batter him, and he knows it. Otherwise he wouldn't be ducking him.

Once GGG is over the hill then Canelo will decide he's a middleweight after all.

Exactly my reaction.
I think GGG would just be too heavy handed for Canelo to keep coming forward. The usual bully would get bullied himself this time and I'm not sure how good Canelo is fighting on the back foot. In fact I think he may not even be versatile enough to switch and might just get beaten up badly.
As for Lara fight, it was close and I think Lara was the better boxer but I see the result simply as an expression of the fact that the 'Mexican' style is just more popular than the 'Cuban' one, in the same way as rock gigs draw more people than classical music concerts ;-) Judges just followed the trend.

Has GGG encountered a guy with a solid chin like Canelo though? Canelo has pretty good offense as well. He is looked down upon I think because of the schooling Floyd gave him, but he is a very good boxer in his own right. I like GGG much better than Canelo personally, and think he is a much better all around boxer, but time is not on his side.

Canelo hasn't had his chin checked by somebody hitting like Golovkin. Stevens and Lemieux have very good chins, and I doubt that Canelo's is better.

Both Lemieux and Stevens have been KO'd before, Canelo has not. No reason to doubt it just yet.

Well the proof is in the pudding. Canelo vacated his title rather than make the biggest fight in the game, saying he was a Jr Middle. He now schedules a fight back up at middle against a much lesser opponent.

I think it's in his mind that he loses. He stopped listening to his corner and looked dejected during the Mayweather fight, his own sheen of invincibility has gone and whatever the reason he ducked the fight.

No, they were not, at least Lemieux wasn't. He wasn't even down in his fight against Rubio. Not sure about Stevens in his last round TKO loss against a journeyman, but he definitely has a very good chin.

Not sure Lemieux's chin was the problem in his fight against GGG. When you're the shorter fighter you have to be quicker and/or have better technique than your opponent unfortunately Lemiuex had neither advantage and was pummelled enough for the ref to call quits on it, he was only down once and never looked truly in danger.

Quacknelo is just a circus sideshow now - he's a protected pretender pretending to be a great fighter - a lot of people will be fooled and a lot of people will waste their $ watching this fraud -

I agree with him. He's knowledgeable about the start. Definitely can have a gig on the mic after he's done Fighting if he wants it. While I also scored for Lara, it was too close to ignore the official result.

I don't see what it is Lara did to win the fight. Move around more? All the most damaging punches in the fight were Canelo's body shots. I thought Canelo won the fight clear myself.

Wilder needs to fight some Top 10 contenders before he comments on any other fighters career. He's the biggest joke in the sport right now so he's got no room to criticize anybody.

Wlad allways did, AJ as well, btw, isn't it Wilder who can chose if his opponent fails a test or doesn't?

He's a commentator and analyst as well, so he can critique other fighters, just as we critique him. He has more right than we do. And, he is not the biggest joke in the sport. I understand you hate the guy, but comon.

A 2 year title reign with not a single defense against a Top 10 ranked Heavyweight is a joke.

If the goal is 'hit and don't get hit' then Lara did the job better IMO. If it's 'keep going forward and throwing so it looks like you're dominating the other guy' then maybe Canelo. But as I say the fight was close.
