Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Dereck Chisora has accused Dillian Whyte of "running away" from a heavyweight rematch.
The British rivals shared a memorable battle at The O2 in December, with Whyte claiming a split decision victory which prompted immediate calls for a second fight.
Whyte, who has named a date in June for his next fight, suggested he would rather pursue a world title, unless a rematch with Chisora makes 'financial sense.'
But Chisora questioned whether Whyte genuinely wants to face him again and dismissed the Brixton man's bid to become a world champion.
"The latest is that boy is being a punk, he's running away," Chisora exclusively told Sky Sports. "He's overpricing himself. We've offered him the money and he's priced himself out.
"He says he's going for a world title. I don't see it, because there is some unfinished business here. Who is he going to fight for a world title? Whoever he fights, he's going to get knocked out."
'Del Boy' admits he could switch his attention to another rematch against Robert Helenius, who received a controversial points victory over the north Londoner in 2011.
"Simple facts are, if he doesn't fight me, then I'll sort a deal with Robert Helenius for the rematch in Finland," said Chisora. "See how that goes, if the numbers add up, we'll do that fight.
"Come back and we'll do Dillian, if he wants to. Who doesn't want to see Dereck Chisora fight?"
The 33-year-old has offered his services as a sparring partner for Tony Bellew and hopes his friend can pull off an upset victory over David Haye on March 4, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Like or loathe DelBoy you have to give him credit. He's scared from nobody and will take on anyone. I don't always agree with his antics and his attitude at times but he's got balls
Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
I've been critical of Chisora in the past because of his antics, but I do think that he's accurate summed up the situation this time.
Whyte convinced himself that (in his words) Derek "is a donkey, who has been ridden hard, his back is broken. He's just hanging around for a few more paydays, then cash out".
Didn't think that Whyte thought Chisora still had the tenacity in him.

Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Whyte likes to thin of himself as a real bad man, especially outside the ring. He works too hard at it. I think Chisora is the man Whyte wishes himself to be in a way!
Having said that, why would Whyte risk a potential world title eliminator/fight to probably lose against Del Boy in a rematch? He was a little lucky with the decision in the first one. He can fight for a world title, lose, then revisit the Chisora fight afterwards.

He's got a fair point. Whyte comes out fairly tarnished from this fight, really proved to me that he's nothing beyond British level.
Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
And he'll be lucky to have half as good a career as Chisora.lillywhite14 wrote:Whyte likes to thin of himself as a real bad man, especially outside the ring. He works too hard at it. I think Chisora is the man Whyte wishes himself to be in a way!![]()

Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
I backed Dereck to beat Whyte last time and felt he did just that. I think Dereck will stop Whyte if they have a rematch.
Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Whyte isn't avoiding Chisora he is just looking for the best opportunity to further his career! He is just being sensible! If he fights for a title and loses the Chisora rematch is still there for him !
Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
I fancied Whyte to beat Chisora on points but I had Chisora winning on the night. You just never know what Chisora is gonna turn up. It's getting a bit of a cliche but it's true.
Fingers crossed they do it again because it's up there with the best domestic heavyweight fights I've seen. Maybe not just domestically! It was that good. The two of them went through hell in that first fight and I don't blame them for wanting top dollar to do it again.

Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
You could apply that to avoiding anyone. Plus Chisora is 33, and has had an exceptionally hard career, he might not be a good fighter soon.knockout wrote:Whyte isn't avoiding Chisora he is just looking for the best opportunity to further his career! Dillian wants a shot at the title. The Chisora fight will still be there if he can't get one or loses.

Totally agree with this. I would love to see a fight between him and the winner of Sexton/Cornish. On terrestrial TV?Stuarty30 wrote:Like or loathe DelBoy you have to give him credit. He already stopped Sexton twice, and I don't think Cornish would last long against him.Gnome wrote:Totally agree with this. I would love to see a fight between him and the winner of Sexton/Cornish. Don't rate Cornish at all. Maybe he's got better recently after training with Billy Nelson for a bit but from what I've saw in the past he needs a hell of a lot of work before he makes any noise domestically. Chisora would walk through him.BitPlayer wrote:He already stopped Sexton twice, and I don't think Cornish would last long against him.Gnome wrote:Totally agree with this. Dillian reckons Chisora wants the fight on BT Sport. Hence why it won't take place.
Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Seems sensible, it'd make it less likely for Chisora to get another "unlucky" decision, if Hearn wasn't running the show.TheGingerBomber wrote:Dillian reckons Chisora wants the fight on BT Sport. Hence why it won't take place.

Hearn wouldn't mind if the fight weren't big, but he wouldn't allow it on BT I reckon.BitPlayer wrote:Seems sensible, it'd make it less likely for Chisora to get another "unlucky" decision, if Hearn wasn't running the show.TheGingerBomber wrote:Dillian reckons Chisora wants the fight on BT Sport. Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Why has he offered himself as a sparring partner for Bellew?
Chisora is nothing like Haye: he can't replicate David's speed & power.
That aside, I hope he & Whyte fight again, as that fight was too close to leave it at that.
I still can't decide who won, as I thought Whyte won when I watched it live & I thought Chisora won when I watched on TV.
Maybe I need to watch it with the sound off, but either way, it was a damn close fight.

Re: Dereck Chisora claims Dillian Whyte has tried to avoid a rematch
Exactly how I see it too. If he can get himself a title shot then he'd be mad to pass it up just to settle a domestic grudge especially from his point of view as he got the win. With a bit of luck it might work it out well, Whyte wins & then first defence is against Chisora.Sklar wrote:Dillian wants a shot at the title. Publicity? Del knows how to promote himself and this is going to keep him fresh in the casuals' minds. Chisora's stock has probably never been higher.Syntax Error wrote:Why has he offered himself as a sparring partner for Bellew?.

Really like Del-Boy. He is a fighter who's strengths were toughness and durability.
He's been in some wars and his durability isn't what it once was, but if he's motivated he's tough for anyone up to European level.

To get him experience fighting someone bigger, and someone that fought Haye before.Syntax Error wrote:Why has he offered himself as a sparring partner for Bellew?
They typically spar multiple people, and will have people rom lower weights for speed training.

Don't ever really think about who my favourite fighters are any more but Chisora would have to be one of them.PredatorHayds wrote:Really like Del-Boy. He is a fighter who's strengths were toughness and durability.

The bandana. The whole hood up and Union Jack bandana is really intimidating and I've liked this little ritual.
Bottle chase- loved how when that idiot threw the bottle at him at the Pulev weigh in he sorted it out himself. Threw security guards out of the way , chased the fella round the hotel before he 'allegedly' knocked him spark out in the kitchen.
Dean Powell- Hearing How he talks about Dean Powell is refreshing. In a time when a lot of relationships in boxing are fake or strained he was always the first to praise Dean Powell's work behind the scenes. Also the fact he talks about him still as his inspiration is a good gesture. Not many 'boxing' men as good as the great Dean Powell.
Badman- Every press conference has some fighter shouting and screaming saying how bad they are and making threats. Only two I've genuinely believed. Del and Adonis.

Why would Del want it on there when he's fallen out with Fwank?TheGingerBomber wrote:Hearn wouldn't mind if the fight weren't big, but he wouldn't allow it on BT I reckon.BitPlayer wrote:Seems sensible, it'd make it less likely for Chisora to get another "unlucky" decision, if Hearn wasn't running the show.TheGingerBomber wrote:Dillian reckons Chisora wants the fight on BT Sport.
