Area Title fights - who would you propose?

Post by m1kee50 »

As I noted in another topic, some of the Area and regional titles have not been contested in some time, some of them only at certain weights.

Are there any match-ups that you would like to see, that would qualify for a title that has not been fought for in a while?

The Welsh title is finally being contested after so long with Dale Evans vs Tony Dixon

But the fight I want to see is
Dorian Darch vs Darren Morgan for the Welsh area heavyweight title but due to Dorians work commitments it won't happen.

Also Morgan Jones vs Nathan Thorley for the light heavyweight version.

What is the prohibitive factor - is there an extra payable to the Board? - is it the cost of the belt?

Anybody know the extra costs ? - I guess there could be one belt per weight and if you win one you keep it until the title goes to somebody else (but could have the option of buying one if you wanted to).

Craig vacated, I can't see him boxing for an area title in the immediate future now.

Scottish Area Title fights

Heavyweight

Ross Henderson v Ian Millarvie or Jay McFarlane

Cruiserweight

Not many apart from Simmons who is past this level.. Got James Quigley maybe v Heron I think his name is.

Light Heavyweight

Brian Forsyth v Grant Quigley ... I think this may be happening on a MTK show

Super Middleweight

David Brophy v John McCallum.. I know David is fighting for the Commonwealth but will be difficult away from home.. If he wins I'd like to see a defence of the commonwealth and Scottish Title here.. Very good fight

Middleweight

Connor Law v Marc Kerr

Light Middle or super welter

Kieran Smith v Gary Murray ... Kieran looks the real deal and Gary improving all the time

Welterweight

John Thain v Kris Carslaw - rematch Sam Ball is this mix also

Super Lightweight

Lewis Benson v Jason Easton .... Very strong division in Scotland and the fight everyone wants to see. great Rivalry as Amateurs

Lightweight

Charlie Flynn v Ryan Collins... We are getting it fantastic fight..

Super Feather

Ronnie Clark V Jordon Mcrorry... I think Jordon deserves a rematch was a very competitive first fight would like to see it again or John Simpson I am a huge fan of John's and so is Ronnie I know he would love that fight.. I'm sure both would love to prove whose the best Super Feather in Scotland

Featherweight

Darren Traynor v Michael Roberts Jnr .. I'm told Roberts Jnr wants to fight at this weight bring Stephen Tiffney into the mix and we have a strong division..

Super Bantamweight

Not really got anyone

Bantamweight

Ukashir Farrooq v Jamie Wilson .. I like this fight very even on paper

Super flyweight / flyweight

Scott Allan v Ross Murray .. Would like to see Scott a bit lower in weight to use his natural advantages. I think he would be really strong a flyweight

Plenty of good all Scottish fights there and all can be made quite easily let's get these belts moving

I administer the belts for the northern area which covers the north-east and Cumbria. Our area is quite lively for belts at the moment. Each area has their own system for administering belts but up here we do things in this way - the promoter pays a small sanctioning fee to hold a belt contest. The winning boxer retains the belt for 28 days after the contest and upon return we give him a commemorative engraved trophy. The belt is provided by a sponsor and they do not come cheap! The sanctioning fee just about covers administration costs. The boxer is at liberty to purchase a replica but does not own the belt. The owner is the sponsor but the board administers the issue and return on his behalf. I suspect this is similar to other regions and the whole thing works very well.

I've always thought it unusual that Scottish and Welsh championships are area equivalent rather than English equivalent

Something I agree with you there Lee.. Quite a few lads on that list more than capable at British level.. I don't massively care about the title the large majority are manufactured anyway I would much rather watch competitive fights.. I see MTK in Scotland are trying their best to do that

thats why they brought in the Celtic title, as an equivalent to the English.

tbf theres more people in London (and the Southern Area) than in the whole of Scotland. In mathematical terms its sensible for it to be an area title, it wouldnt be practical to have Area titles below it.

Now we have the English/Celtic titles we should reduce the Area titles to 8 rounders , would be the next step before 10 rounders . Proposed to board previously but knocked back .

Sounds like a good idea - did the Board give any reasoning for knocking it back?

I'd love to see a Northern Ireland area Heavyweight title fight.

Between Martin Rogan and Darren Corbett.

Both men are nice to each other's faces but tell stories about knocking the other one out in sparring.

I'd say a good 4 or 6 rounder to settle it.

Do you think that would results in more area title fights (as people would be happier to perhaps put prospects in earlier).

Some of the best fights I've seen live have been midlands area titles and it frustrates me the lack of them recently. Seems boxers/their teams don't want to take the risk of going in against someone with a winning record until English title/British eliminator level. Suppose us fans and the whole industry need to take some of the blame with the whole emphasis we put on an unbeaten record. Its the one area I'd prefer boxing to be more like MMA. If people weren't fussed with that silly 0 we'd see more well matched fights earlier on and I'm damn sure fighters would learn more too.

Paddock Keates rematch definitely still think Paddock nicked that fight.

Lennox Clarke really should have become area champion by now (another keep busy win last night). Think he'll bypass it now and go straight to challenging for a domestic title, but the same with Ricky Summers when they both do fight up at that level will they wish they'd had the experience of one or two decent tough tests at area title level?

Summers has got a shot at British against bulginio on haye undercard mate but I do agree with u. I watched some of Lennox fight on the net pretty much wat I expected tbh. Hope he has that eliminator against Cameron it's about time he stepped up.

Yeah thats my point Summers has jumped straight from fighting journeymen to a British title fight that sadly he'll probably lose (hope I'm wrong). Maybe I he'd had a couple of tough area title fights he'd be better prepared.

imo, it should be that having an Area title makes you (a) mandatory for the English, and that makes you (a) mandatory of sorts for the British. Seeing as theres more than one Area, and you've got the English/Celtic titles above that, that should give plenty of options

Some decent fights there. John Simpson is on the comeback trail. Fights a warm up soon and is looking to push on afterwards.
