Disappointed in Shane McG to be honest

Post by Mensa07 »

Thought the corner should have forced the issue much earlier, really not sure why Shane let him fight so many rounds given he could barely walk. In the break immediately after it happened Haye was obviously saying let me fight on, so at that point you'd maybe let him go another minute or two but clearly, I'll repeat that in caps, CLEARLY Haye was in considerable pain and couldn't use both legs properly. So how the f*ck he was ever going to box properly I'll never know. Yes Haye would have been furious if McGuigan had pulled it, because of his pride, and yes he'd maybe never work with or even speak to him again, but FFS from a professional point of view it was the only decision IMO. Instead you keep sending your guy out there to get clubbed and make a spectacle of himself falling over when trying to fight back. I thought it was pretty shocking from the corner tbh and I'm surprised nobodies talking more about it.

While I'm ranting I was a bit disappointed in Bellew after the fight also. I like Tony and I even won a few quid by backing him, but to not even acknowledge the fact, FACT, that Haye's achilles or whatever it was clearly snapped and left him broken wasn't very sporting. To try and paint the fight as 'I knew I'd get him late on' or whatever is just bollocks. AS I said I had a very small bet on Tony but up till the injury there was only going to be one winner, Haye was finding a rhythm and starting to connect with Tony's very stationary head more and more.

I imagine Haye will have to retire now but to be honest I really hope he gets the ankle 100% and gets a rematch, from what I seen in the few rounds he was able a 100% fit Haye would be far too much for Bellew. Good luck to both anyway whatever they do next.

Aye, it was a bit mad given the state Haye was in. I was surprised he kept going so long in that state. Shane did throw the towel though as soon as Haye got hurt.

My feelings were mixed. As an outsider, I felt that Shane was making a mistake in letting it continue; at the time, that is. But then Bellew wasn't an immediate threat and no-one knew if Haye — who was still dangerous — could manage to land anything. Crucially, Shane knew that Bellew would finally come forward, giving Haye his best chance of catching him.

Add to that the unspoken understanding between the two that Haye wanted to chance it, knowing that Bellew might leave himself open. And it's hard to do the usual thing of giving your fighter one more round, because Bellew hadn't shown himself capable of measuring Haye beforehand. Haye had to go back out there to see the lie of the land, basically, and if Shane's at fault, it's for letting it run a few rounds too far after that was established.

But again, it wasn't like a normal fight between closely matched opponents: Haye was clearly winning until the injury, and barely losing after it. He just couldn't move, and in the interests of his recovery probably should've been pulled out sooner.

Bellew not mentioning the injury is just the same as not mentioning the fact he took all of Hayes best shots when most experts thought he would fold inside 2 rounds, many saying he would get ko'd by the first punch landed,so i think we should give him far more credit than he is getting for an injury win, remember he also had to stay upright to win and he did just that.

I thought last night that the towel should have gone in earlier, however on reflection Shane was the one dialoging with David and knew better what he was feeling and let's be honest, on the rare occasions that a Bellew did engage there only looked like one of them might score a knockout, even with one leg.
It seems like Haye went in with the injury as he was boxing flat footed and unable or unwilling to launch off the back foot to land a real power shot from the start.
Once the slip and injury flare up happened he could do nothing but hope Bellew fancied going for a stoppage.

tony won and it was good to see, hayes bad verbals made it slightly pleasing he lost, i think however, and im right, that had haye not have been injured, bellew was heading to defeat..either points or the short route.

I was wondering.. Had the doctor stopped the fight after the injury... Would it have bee a Bellew TKO win or scorecards?

Because Bellew did not cause the injury.. Then again it wasn't like it was accidental on both partys.

I think coming out for one round after the injury was worth a punt, but after that it was a lost cause in my opinion. It is becoming a common theme for trainers to leave their fighters out there for too long.

Bellew not mentioning the injury is not comparable, with him taking Haye's best shots, it just isn't. Haye landed maybe 10 power shots, before the tendon went, and his balance was off before that, it's not like he was hammering Bellew with hayemakers and Bellew just shrugged them all off.

Bellew was fighting an opponent who couldn't move around the ring, and couldn't get any leverage in his shots for almost 6 whole rounds.

Haye should probably have been pulled out, barring a miracle, he wasn't going to be able to land something and knock bellew out.

I think that Haye would maybe have gotten Bellew out of there without the injury, but he didn't look good, and it might have gone to the scorecards, Haye was starting to find his timing, but he looked slow and cumbersome, and wasn't landing often.

McGuigan did everything right in my book. Once Haye was in danger of getting hurt he pulled him out. This is the hurt business sometimes you've gotta let warriors fight and that's what he did.

There's a video on Twitter to confirm an incident, whether it was a chinning or a shove etc, it isn't totally clear

My mate just sent me a link to my phone there funnily enough. Looks like a punch to me but as you say, it's not clear. Apparently a couple of people who were near by the incident had confirmed on Twitter that it was a punch but who knows...

I think it's because he knew there was no coming back from losing to Bellew.

Shane reputation is taking another hammering, I've always looked at him as a celebrity trainer I mean let's look at it he only got involved with frampton through his dad, frampton was one of Gerry storey fighters, so was has Shane actually done to deserve these top fighters now, he's never coached amature or had a pro from scratch which aren't a top proepect

There were rumours Haye was carrying the injury into the fight so when it did show its ugly head, maybe it was something both boxer and trainer were expecting and had talked about before hand as a worse case scenario. It was sad to watch all the same.

I think he must have damaged it with the penalty on SoccerAM - if he had an injury prior, he won't have taken one

Was an awful scuff

It is sounding increasingly like Haye was injured going in & it makes me wonder why a guy was has perfected the art of pulling out of fights did not do so on this occasion?

My Mrs isnt a boxing fan per sa but watches fights when im watching them. She was appaulled that Hayes corner never pulled him out and I tried to explain to her tha tit wasnt Hayes brain that was effected but his leg so im sure if he could not go on he would have said.

Her response was, 'no he wouldnt he was so pumped up with adrenalin that he wouldnt have had fully sensible decisions'.

I think think the split arse could be right.
