Kubrat Pulev vs Kevin Johnson?

Post by Sagaroth »

Hi guys,

The news came from Pulev itself.
On the 28th of April Pulev will face Kevin Johnson. The fight will take place in Sofia.

As far as I remember Kevin stop with boxing in 2015? WTF is this fight? What is the purpose of this fight? I'm a Pulev fan but this mach is so useless. Keep busy fight or what?

After soundly beating a poor Chisora he's managed to step back in competition. If he gets a world title fight on the back of Peter & Johnson then the world has gone mad. Said it all when he bottled AJ.

Seems that way.

He must be on a mission to add as many fat wasters to his resume as possible.

Who on Earth wants to see Kevin Johnson fight?

Kevin Johnson's heavybag probably refuses to work with him these days!

Pulev needs to be frying bigger fish than this if he is serious about his career.

This would be far from the worst fights-before-title-shot scenario recently.

It's a crap fight, but at least he's staying busy. I guess they figure Johnson will give him rounds.

Kevin Johnson's heavy bag would probably be a better opponent...

Another terrible fight in the increasingly terrible HW division.

People slag the division off for no reason.

I haven't watched him fight in many years. Can't remember the last time.

Really does put into focus the credit due to Klitschko and AJ. For all his faults, at least Klitschko fought everyone available.

Wilder, Pulev, Fury are all massive let downs. The only other HWs out there are PED users but would've fought anyone IMO. Povetkin, Browne and Ortiz.

Let's hope Parker beats Fury then offers Wilder out. I can see Deontay taking that fight.

He's nothing more than a big fat barely moving target and that was a few years back so I doubt he's got any better! Fodder!

Hard to see Povetkin on that list. He ducked wlad for years as the #1 contender.

What's wrong with it? It's a top 5 HW against a total scrub who hasn't even been a fringe contender for a good 5 years. Forget what's wrong with it, what's right with it?

Johnson is a good stay-active opponent, but Pulev seems to have nothing but stay-active opponents the past few years.

Kubrat isn't getting any younger and his promoter should be getting him into more meaningful fights.

In all seriousness, if KJ is a "good stay-active opponent" who is a bad opponent? Chauncy Welliver? Jason Gavern? Surely the line must be drawn somewhere.

I've always thought a good stay active opponent as being one that is cheap and hopefully able to get you rounds. Of course the fighter staying active is also important; champions defending titles against stay active opponents is ludicrous.

Stay active opponents for largely inactive fighters = collecting a paycheck with the least risk of pain. Johnson isn't a stay active opponent, he's the only kind pulev and his team want.

I agree with this, especially in Pulevs case as he's shown no real signs of wanting to make a title run since Klitschko blasted him.

On the off chance he really does want the Joshua/Klitschko winner, I suppose it makes sense to stay busy. I'd hope to have more than Kevin Johnson confidence in my fighter though for a stay busy.
