Post by apollo creed »

Let's say GGG would do it to add less pressure to him and of course not let Canelo grab all those hard earned titles in case of a robbery.

Can GGG let all the titles go or at least put 1 or 2 of them in the line against Canelo ?

Good move. At that point the titles are really meaningless in the grand scheme. Why pay sanctioning fees on 4 titles, not including the IBO, when they can just fight for the lineal title. At that time he'll be at the point of his career where he won't want to have his fights dictated by sanctioning body mandatories. He just had to miss a fight in December dealing with Jacobs.

Yup, I also think it's just a good move if the fight get's signed. After GGG gets his dream come true i.e unifying all the titles, then it's pointless to risk them all against a fighter who have good chances to win them, not to mention the sanctioning fees for 4 titles.

Bad move, because if you get all 4 titles, it's good to at least defend them once.
Canelo doesn't have to pay the sanctioning fees if he doesn't want to.

Once GGG beats Canelo, he would have nothing left at 160, apart from the Jacobs rematch, which doesn't really have to happen at 160 anyways. They can both move up to 168 and have a rematch at that weight.

One of the most fúckíng stupid things that has ever been posted on this forum! I know… why doesn’t Golovkin sign a contract to face Canelo, which forbids the Kazakh from voluntarily vacating his titles, GGG vacates his belts anyway, and then Gennady would be sued for breaching his contract and will also miss out on a massive payday, as the broken contract allows Canelo to walk away from the contest?

He would have to retire after a move like that. No way he's going to get the fights he needs to even make a dent in his legacy. Most likely, young fighters with a lot to lose will just circumvent him anyways and fight for the vacant titles.

So in that contract would be stipulated that GGG has to put in line all his mw titles or fight is off ?

You would imagine that GBP would include stipulations in the contract that ensures that Golovkin's titles are on the line against Canelo.

Put it this way, what's easier to sell as a super-fight PPV? A non-title bout or a historical undisputed middleweight title fight?

I have no doubts that Canelo would want the belts. Golovkin's purse would drop significantly if the belts weren't on the table.

So the "Enlightened One" must be in on the negotiations or have knowledge of title fight contracts! Tell me, what was Danny Jacobs' penalty for not fighting for the IBF title when he skipped the 2nd day weigh in against GGG? Exactly. Nothing. If you were actually "enlightened" you'd know that no sanctioning body, nor the belt they represent will dictate whether a fight of that magnitude happens. :brick:

Who can answer this. If Golovkin doesn't complete a same day weigh in and/or stay within 10 pounds of 160 pounds at this same day weigh in, does he loose the IBF title? If so he is forced to adhere to this IBF rule to hold on to the title. Jacobs exploited this, will every other opponent not interested in the IBF title be doing the same? Not sure of the rules governing the other titles, to be honest, I only became aware of this after reading the media about Jacobs missing a same day weigh in.

AFTER the monies agreed things like that don't matter. Belts bring TVs to the table and therefore the money, the TVs sell the world title to their audience. Only in super-fights where both names are household can titles be ignored. There is usually only 1 super-fight in each division and often there are none, but then what happens after the super-fight?

..as much as the boxing fans don't give a damn about titles, the boxers have every reason to keep them as long as they can...it's publicity, it's money and as much as I dislike the word it's their "legacy" something they are very sensitive about..

Canelo still technically holds The Ring World title

Ring usually give their world champions, 2 years to fight anyone ranked in their Top 5. So Canelo has til November.. He also still is Lineal champion too..

I think, GGG vs. BJS, it's all the middleweight titles. Wouldn't the winner of that automatically be Lineal champion? or at least The Ring. Unless Caenlo even fights at Middleweight.

I don't believe GGG would vacate his hard earned titles. I do understand why some say he would. e.g. We have Charlo working his way towards mandatory position. If he holds the WBO, WBC, WBA and IBF.. One of them is bound to force a mandatory. I know IBF don't have any exceptions.

IMO if a 'new' fighter unifies all the titles in his division he becomes ' the new lineal champion'. Canelo is no lineal champion since he cherrypicked that belt from Cotto at 155 lbs. Ring title means nothing, it's on a par with IBO.

HBO and GBP won't allow GGG to vacate his titles, since such a manoeuvre would have a detrimental effect on the commercial success of the PPV.

In terms of the Golovkin-Jacobs situation, GGG still technically performed an IBF title defence even though Danny could not have won that belt, so this didn't contradict HBO's and K2's promotional material... and the champion probably stuck to the terms of the contract (since he didn't vacate his belts). So the situation is different, despite you pretending otherwise.

By the way, in the future, argue against my actual words, instead of against a fictional stance that I do not hold, which was simply fabricated in your mind.

I answered the questions you posed to me in this thread, which you didn't challenge. And other posters, who openly dislike me, shared the same stance that I hold, so what does that tell you?

It should tell you that you're WRONG and it's futile to argue against common sense!!!

Here is Able's opinion on Golovkin's future. I doubt that he will be the one deciding though.

No, the Ring title is better than any of the ABC titles.

So you're advocating Golovkin drop his belts? You do realise that team Golovkin have been struggling to get the fight in the first place right? I do my think him dropping his belts is going to help that cause.

No, Ring is owned by DLH. The fact that they have Canelo own the MW title says it all.

... and here is another case of a trainer having no decision power talking. I doubt Ward could make 168 comfortably enough to fight Golovkin.

The Ring belt means nothing anymore. Golovkin could beat Saunders and Canelo would still have the Ring middleweight title. The WBAN website belt for women boxers is more valid than the Ring belt. The BoxRec belt is more valid than the Ring belt.
