Didn't he move from GoldenBoy to MatchRoom year ago? Hearns had enough of him?Ruthless-RKO wrote:BS.com has been informed that undefeated heavyweight puncher Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs) of Cuba has signed on with powerful adviser Al Haymon.

Hearn gave him 1 fight against the most scared fighter I've ever seen, an absolutely petrified Malik scott, who didn't engage for 8 rounds and bored Ortiz to death. Should have put him in with Joshua. But that was never gonna happen was it.

James DeGale is with Hearn and Haymon. Haymon isn't a promoter. This deal simply give Ortiz more options.bigman1968 wrote:Didn't he move from GoldenBoy to MatchRoom year ago? Re: Luis Ortiz Inks Pact With Al Haymon
Eddie Hearn was approach by Luis Ortiz to promote him. King Kong is still listed as a Matchroom fighter.
The precise terms of Ortiz’s promotional deal with Eddie Hearn has never been disclosed. King Kong has already done two fights with Matchroom and five days ago King Kong’s team confirmed with Hearn that they wanted to do more fights with the British promoter.
In addition to Luis Ortiz, Eddie Hearn promotes two other Al Haymon-advised fighters, Lee Selby and James DeGale. He’s involved in the decision-making process, but he has less control over these guys than he does with his other fighters.
Eddie Hearn talks regularly with Al Haymon, he is involved and he promotes these guys whenever they compete in the UK. However, the likes of Selby and DeGale have previously enjoyed bigger fight purses competing on American soil, which is simply a business decision.
Simply put: Ortiz will be promoted by Eddie Hearn if he competes in the UK, but if he chooses to fight on American soil, he’ll likely be promoted by one of Al Haymon’s affiliated promoters.

Maybe you're right, I don't know. All I can do is quote the words uttered by Eddie Hearn when he was interviewed by iFL TV, Fight-Hype and Behind the Gloves. So for all I know, he could be lying.IT wrote:Ortiz's deal with Matchroom was/is on a fight by fight basis.Enlightened-One wrote:Eddie Hearn was approach by Luis Ortiz to promote him. For the record, I've just read Jay Jimenez claiming that Ortiz doesn't have a formal promotional agreement with Hearn.
Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz has just been added to the Andre Berto vs. Shawn Porter undercard, possibly against Derric Rossy.

He didn't get Joshua from Hearn, and no way in hell he is getting Wilder from Haymon.

He(his management) didn't used his impressive win vs Jennings (btw, what happened to Jennings since???) to get million dollar fight, and the hype was lost at non-impressive/embarrassing fights with Scott/Allen.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He's perpetually irrelevant.
I predict he'll fight more 3-5 small money fights to collect pension fund...

I doubt ortiz would take on the likes of wilder.

I think Ortiz would box wilders ears off
Re: Luis Ortiz Inks Pact With Al Haymon
At first glance, that seems counter intuitive to me. Given their recent track records, it seems less likely that team Wilder would want a fight with a guy like Ortiz. If I may ask, what leads you to believe that Ortiz would steer clear of a Wilder fight? Seems like a fight he should want since he seems to have a great big pile of nothing going on in his career.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I doubt ortiz would take on the likes of wilder.

In all honesty I just tire of the trumping of Ortiz when he does less than nothing. I'm sure they'd fight each other if they were both given manicures and pedicures for life.jas80s wrote:Makes no sense to me, but as was pointed out to me by a fight manager years ago, "these guys do get hit in the head for a living"SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The steaming pile of nothing suits him.jas80s wrote:

Re: Luis Ortiz Inks Pact With Al Haymon
Ortiz, in his current guise, really isn't that good. I don't doubt that he was an incredibly talented fighter that would've beaten most of the top HWs , but not anymore.
Re: Luis Ortiz Inks Pact With Al Haymon
Ortiz motivated might be a different animal, they didn't get enough out of him.
Send him out here.

Re: Luis Ortiz Inks Pact With Al Haymon
Fighting another stay busy opponent in Brooklyn at end of the month. No good going through motions fighting guys like Dave Allen and Derric Rossy (??). Another wasted Cuban HW talent I fear.

Not yet it ain't.
Why did he not make it in the UK ?
